DL365 Gen11 Processor Specifications

  • Sockets: up to two, interconnected over 3XGMI by default; 160 PCIe 5.0 lanes
  • 5th Generation EPYC 9005 Series: 8 to 160 cores, 125W to 400W cTDP, 64MB to 512MB cache, listed at 6400 MT/s
  • 4th Generation EPYC 9004 Series: 16 to 128 cores, 200W to 400W cTDP, 64MB to 1,150MB cache, listed at 4800 MT/s
  • Cooling: processor kits do not include heat sink and fans; heat sinks and DLC cold plate modules are ordered separately
  • Pairing: mixing two different processor models is not allowed; the second must match the first
  • Wattage: table figures are the default cTDP (Configurable TDP) of each part

Order the cooling with the processor. Processor kits do not include heat sink and fans. At or below 240W cTDP the standard heat sink and standard fan kit are required; above 240W the performance heat sink and performance fan kit are required. A 2-socket configuration needs 7 fan kits, one fan each.

The generation matters more than the core count when you buy. The QuickSpecs state that 4th Generation 9004 Series processors are compatible with 4800 MT/s memory DIMMs and 5th Generation 9005 Series processors with 6400 MT/s. They also state that selecting a 5th Generation CPU requires the NS204i-u V2 boot device P78279-B21.

Choosing the Right DL365 Gen11 Processors

  • Order cooling with the CPU. At or below 240W cTDP the standard heat sink and standard fan kit are required; above 240W the performance pair is required, or a DLC module. Standard and performance heat sinks cannot be mixed.
  • High-wattage CPUs cost drive bays: at or above 320W the build caps at 8 SFF drives and 12 EDSFF drives.
  • Fan kits are sold one fan at a time: a 1-socket build needs 5, a 2-socket build needs 7.
  • The second processor unlocks the platform: 24 DIMM slots require two, the secondary and GPU riser slots are fed from Proc 2, and the EDSFF CTO model needs two.

Up to two AMD EPYC processors, from two generations. The QuickSpecs print a 5th Generation 9005 Series table running from the 8-core EPYC 9015 to the 160-core EPYC 9845, and a 4th Generation 9004 Series table running from the 16-core EPYC 9124 to the 128-core EPYC 9754.

How do I tell which EPYC generation my DL365 Gen11 takes?
Check what is installed. The QuickSpecs list both the 9004 and 9005 Series as processor options for this server, under separate headings, and the two differ in memory grade - 4800 MT/s for 9004, 6400 MT/s for 9005. Mixing two different processor models is not allowed, so a second CPU must match the first exactly.

What is the maximum core count of the DL365 Gen11?
The highest core count in the QuickSpecs processor tables is the 160-core EPYC 9845, a 5th Generation 9005 Series part with a 390W default cTDP. On the 4th Generation side, the 128-core EPYC 9754 tops the table.

Do DL365 Gen11 processors come with heat sinks?
No. The QuickSpecs state that processor kits do not include heat sink and fans. Order the standard 1U heat sink kit at or below 240W cTDP, or the performance 1U kit above 240W - or a Direct Liquid Cooling cold plate module in its place.

Does the DL365 Gen11 processor choice affect the boot device?

Why does a 400W processor limit my drive count?
