HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 Parts

The HPE ProLiant ML150 Gen9 is the two-socket value tower built on the Intel C610 chipset, taking Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors across 16 DDR4 DIMM slots in a 5U floor-standing chassis with six full-height PCIe 3.0 slots. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.

ML150 Gen9 Platform at a Glance

  • Processors: up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or E5-2600 v4, 36 cores in total, in per-socket counts of 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 cores
  • Memory: 16 DDR4 slots — eight per processor — taking HPE SmartMemory Registered or Load Reduced DIMMs to 512GB either way, on sixteen 32GB modules
  • Drive cages: four hot-plug LFF growing to eight, eight hot-plug SFF growing to sixteen, or up to ten non-hot-plug 3.5-inch SATA — and mixing cage types is not allowed
  • Maximum internal storage: 80TB on eight 10TB LFF drives, 40TB on ten 4TB non-hot-plug LFF, 32TB on sixteen 2TB SFF, or 61.44TB on sixteen 3.84TB SFF SATA solid state drives
  • Storage controller: embedded HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i on entry and base models, or the HPE H240 Smart Host Bus Adapter on performance models
  • Networking: two embedded Gigabit RJ-45 ports on a Broadcom 5717 dual-port controller, with a dedicated iLO management port available as an option kit
  • Expansion: six PCI Express 3.0 slots — two x16 and four x8, all full height — of which two are wired to the second processor
  • Power and cooling: a 550W entry supply at 80 Plus Silver, or 900W AC 240VDC power input modules at 80 Plus Gold on a redundant power backplane, cooled by two non-hot-plug fans and three with a second processor fitted
  • Footprint and acoustics: 17.03 by 7.87 by 24.41 inches and 32lb to 64lb, with declared bystander noise of 22 dBA idle on the LFF builds and 25 dBA on the SFF hot-plug build
  • Management: HPE iLO 4 with 2GB NAND, Intelligent Provisioning, UEFI boot with a Legacy BIOS option, and an internal Micro SD slot

Two things decide most ML150 Gen9 orders: the drive cage and the second processor. The chassis was built with four hot-plug LFF bays, eight hot-plug SFF bays, or non-hot-plug LFF, and HPE does not allow those cage types to be mixed. The second socket is the other gate — eight of the sixteen DIMM slots and two of the six PCIe slots only come online once it is filled.

ML150 Gen9 Parts FAQ

What processors does the ML150 Gen9 support?
Up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or E5-2600 v4 processors, for 36 cores in total. HPE does not support mixing different processor models in the same server, so a second CPU has to match the one already fitted.

How much memory can an ML150 Gen9 take?
512GB across 16 DDR4 slots, reached with sixteen 32GB modules at 2400MHz. That ceiling is the same whether the server runs Registered or Load Reduced DIMMs, and a single-processor server can only use eight of the sixteen slots.

How many drives fit in an ML150 Gen9?
It depends on the cage. Four hot-plug LFF bays grow to eight, eight hot-plug SFF bays grow to sixteen, and the non-hot-plug LFF chassis reaches ten 3.5-inch SATA drives. Mixing cage types is not allowed.

Which storage controller is built into the ML150 Gen9?
An embedded HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i on entry and base models, which handles SATA only at 6Gb/s with RAID 0, 1, 10 and 5. Performance models shipped with the H240 Smart Host Bus Adapter instead.

Is the ML150 Gen9 a tower or a rack server?
It is a tower, 17.03 by 7.87 by 24.41 inches and between 32lb and 64lb depending on how it is built. HPE also documents a tower-to-rack conversion tray that mounts it as a 5U rack server.

How loud is an ML150 Gen9?
HPE declares 22 dBA at the bystander position when idle for the LFF builds and 25 dBA for the SFF hot-plug build, measured in a 23 degree Celsius ambient. Added options can raise those levels above the shipping configuration.
