HPE MSA 2060 / 2062 Parts
Every part on this page is one HPE lists for the HPE MSA 2060 storage array, the MSA Gen6 generation: the compatible hard disk drives and solid state drives, the SFP transceivers the Fibre Channel and 10GbE iSCSI models take, the drive enclosures that grow the array, the Mini-SAS cables, the DC power supply option and the bezel lock kit. For the HPE MSA 2062, HPE’s MSA 2062 QuickSpecs, in Version 22 or its earlier editions, lists the same options apart from the self-encrypting drives and the SSD 6-packs. Every part ships tested or factory sealed. The drives have their own page: HPE MSA 2060 / 2062 Drives.
HPE MSA 2060 / 2062 Specifications
- Form factor: HPE lists the MSA 2060 as “2U, SFF or LFF”, with “12 drive bay LFF or 24 drive bay SFF 2U base arrays, depending on model”. The MSA 2062 is SFF only: “24 drive bay SFF 2U base arrays”.
- Controllers: “Dual hot-swappable active/active controllers” with “4 host ports per controller, 8 host ports per array”. HPE notes that “The MSA 2060 does not support single controller configurations.”
- Host connectivity: “8/16 Gb Fibre Channel, 10/25 GbE iSCSI, 1/10 GBase-T and 12 Gb SAS protocol support”, one protocol per array: “There are no converged protocol models with the MSA 2060 Storage systems”.
- What each array includes: the MSA 2060 base models ship with “two MSA 2060 controllers, two AC power supplies, two 1.5m PDU cords (IEC C14), and one rack-mount kit”, and “SFPs are not included in the base MSA 2060 Storage systems.” The MSA 2062 adds “two 1.92 TB Read Intensive SSDs, one Advanced Data Services LTU (preinstalled on the array)”.
- Drives: on the MSA 2060, “Maximum total HDDs per array 240 SFF / 120 LFF”, the same for SSDs, and “Max raw capacity per array 7.37 PB (All SFF) / 2.88 PB (All LFF)”.
- Expansion: “0-9 enclosures” on a 12 Gb SAS drive enclosure interface; HPE’s table lists “LFF/SFF array/enclosure mixing” as “Supported”.
- Serviceability: “All MSA 2060 models support hot plug expansion and replacement of redundant controllers, drives, fans, power supplies, and I/O modules”, and “Hot add expansion of drive enclosures is also supported.”
- Self-encrypting drives: HPE lists “Support for self-encrypting (SED) SSDs and HDDs” on the MSA 2060; on the Flash Bundle models “All drive options are supported except SED/TAA compliant drives”, and the MSA 2062 QuickSpecs lists no self-encrypting option.
Match the transceivers to the array model before you order. HPE states that “MSA 2060 Storage Systems do not ship with SFPs”, that a “Minimum of one SFP transceiver 4 pack is required for Fibre Channel models” and that you “Cannot mix FC transceivers with iSCSI transceivers in the same storage system” — while the SAS and 10GBase-T models “do not require SFP modules”.
What Is on This Page, and What Is Not
The parts below are the orderable hardware options from HPE’s MSA 2060 QuickSpecs, grouped as HPE groups them: drives, SFP transceivers, drive enclosures, SAS cables, the DC power supply kit and the security option. Several things HPE lists are deliberately not here. The array models themselves (MSA 2060, TAA-compliant MSA 2060, MSA 2060 Flash Bundle, the Smart Choice arrays, and the MSA 2062) are complete systems, not parts. The Smart Choice options are not listed separately: HPE states that “HPE MSA Smart Choice Arrays can be configured with either standard MSA Options or with options from the MSA Smart Choice Options menu”, and the standard options are the parts on this page. The fibre, direct attach copper and active optical host cables are generic switch-side cabling that depends on the switch at the other end, so they are not carried as MSA parts; the SAS host cables are, because HPE lists them for one job each: the Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS HD cables “are used to connect the DL and ML ProLiant 12Gb SAS Servers to MSA 2060 SAS Storage system”, and the Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS cables “are used to connect the c-Class 6Gb BladeSystem SAS switch to MSA 2060 SAS Storage system”. Power cords and the Advanced Data Services software licence are not listed either.
Choosing the Right HPE MSA 2060 / 2062 Parts
- Transceivers are a separate line. HPE: “MSA 2060 Storage Systems do not ship with SFPs”; each 16Gb FC or 10GbE iSCSI array “can be configured with either four or eight SFPs”, and a “Minimum of one SFP transceiver 4 pack is required for Fibre Channel models”. The SAS and 10GBase-T models “do not require SFP modules”; the 10GbE iSCSI models “can use Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables instead of SFPs” and “can support both 10Gb or 25Gb transceivers in the same array”. HPE adds that you “Cannot mix FC transceivers with iSCSI transceivers in the same storage system”.
- Drive enclosures come cabled for the short run. “Each drive enclosure includes a single rack-mount kit and two 0.5m MiniSAS HD to MiniSAS HD cables”; the 1.0m and 2.0m Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS HD cables are “For use when adding a drive enclosure and a longer cable is required.” HPE allows you to “Add up to nine additional drive enclosures to each MSA 2060 array model”, and the LFF and the SFF enclosure each “can be connected to either the MSA 2060 SFF or LFF Storage systems”. On the MSA 2062, “Adding LFF HDD or SSD options to an MSA 2062 storage array requires the addition of an MSA 2060 LFF Drive Enclosure (R0Q39B).”
- DC power is bought in pairs. “All MSA 2060 array enclosures and drive enclosures come standard with 2 AC power supplies”; “If DC power is desired, then two DC power supplies must be selected on the array enclosure and all drive enclosures”, and “One (1) 48VDC 2.3M power cord is included with each R0Q90A kit.” HPE lists the R0Q90A kit as “Required for use in NEBS compliant MSA Gen6 configuration.”
- Mixing drive types needs a licence on the MSA 2060. “Customers can mix SSD, Enterprise SAS, and SAS Midline (MDL) drives in the same array configuration”, but “An Advanced Data Services Suite License is required when mixing HDDs and SSDs within the same configuration, except when using SSDs exclusively as SSD Read Cache”. On the MSA 2062, “The MSA Advanced Data Services LTU comes standard on the MSA 2062 models.” The licence is a software part HPE sells; it is not listed here.
- Self-encrypting drives are an all-or-nothing choice. “All drives within the MSA 2060 array must be self-encrypted drives to enable the encryption feature”, and “Mixing SEDs and regular non-encrypting drives within the same system is supported but not recommended.” On a TAA-compliant MSA 2060 the choice is made for you: “When adding additional storage capacity to a TAA-compliant array model, you may only select SED drive options”.

HPE MSA 2060 / 2062 Parts FAQ
Which drives fit the HPE MSA 2060 and MSA 2062?
The 12G SAS HDDs and SSDs HPE lists for the MSA 2060, in SFF (2.5in) and LFF (3.5in) form factors, as single drives and 6-pack bundles, plus the self-encrypting (SED) options. HPE states that "Prior Generation of MSA HDDs and SSDs are not compatible with MSA Gen 6 Storage Systems". The MSA 2062 QuickSpecs, in Version 22 or its earlier editions, lists the same single drives and HDD 6-packs, without the SED drives and SSD 6-packs, and its LFF drives go in an MSA 2060 LFF Drive Enclosure. The full list is on the HPE MSA 2060 / 2062 Drives page.
Does the MSA 2060 come with SFP transceivers?
Not the base models. HPE states that "MSA 2060 Storage Systems do not ship with SFPs" and that "SFPs are not included in the base MSA 2060 Storage systems." Each Fibre Channel array needs at least one 4-pack, and a 16Gb FC or 10GbE iSCSI array takes four or eight SFPs, while the SAS and 10GBase-T models "do not require SFP modules". The MSA 2062 is the same: "MSA 2062 Storage Systems do not ship with SFPs."
How many drive enclosures can I add to an MSA 2060?
Up to nine. HPE states "Add up to nine additional drive enclosures to each MSA 2060 array model", and either enclosure, LFF or SFF, connects to an SFF or LFF base array. That takes the MSA 2060 to 240 SFF or 120 LFF drives and a stated maximum raw capacity of 7.37 PB (all SFF) or 2.88 PB (all LFF). Each enclosure ships with a rack-mount kit and two 0.5m Mini-SAS HD cables.
What is the difference between the MSA 2060 and the MSA 2062?
HPE's MSA 2062 QuickSpecs describes each MSA 2062 model as including "an MSA 2060-branded SFF array chassis, two MSA 2060 controllers, two 1.92 TB Read Intensive SSDs, one Advanced Data Services LTU (preinstalled on the array)", with two AC power supplies, PDU cords and a rack-mount kit. The MSA 2060 comes in LFF and SFF models, and HPE's list of what a base model includes names no drives and no licence; the MSA 2060 Flash Bundle models add twelve integrated SSDs.
Do I need a licence to mix HDDs and SSDs in an MSA 2060?
Usually, yes. HPE states that "An Advanced Data Services Suite License is required when mixing HDDs and SSDs within the same configuration, except when using SSDs exclusively as SSD Read Cache", and that "Configurations with all SSDs or with an SSD Read Cache extension do not require an ADS license on the MSA2060 array." The MSA 2062 includes that licence; on the MSA 2060 it is an optional software part.
Can I use self-encrypting drives in an MSA 2060 Flash Bundle?
No. HPE states that on the MSA 2060 Flash Bundle models "All drive options are supported except SED/TAA compliant drives". The standard MSA 2060 models support self-encrypting SSDs and HDDs, and a TAA-compliant MSA 2060 takes only SED drives when capacity is added. To enable encryption, every drive in the array must be SED.
