HPE Gen10 Memory (1st Gen CPU)
HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers with 1st Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Bronze 31xx, Silver 41xx, Gold 51xx / 61xx, Platinum 81xx) take HPE DDR4-2666 SmartMemory: registered DIMMs from 8GB to 32GB and load-reduced DIMMs of 64GB and 128GB. The DL325 Gen10 with AMD EPYC 7001 processors takes its own DDR4-2666 kits, and the ML30 Gen10 tower takes DDR4-2666 unbuffered ECC DIMMs. A Gen10 server with 2nd Gen processors uses the DDR4-2933 kits instead, and HPE does not support mixing the two families.

How processor and memory speed fit together
The kit speed is the fastest the DIMM can run. The processor sets the speed it actually runs at, so a Silver 4110 with DDR4-2666 kits runs them at 2400 MT/s and that is normal. Buy the kit family that matches the generation; the processor takes care of the rest.

Each Intel Xeon Scalable processor has 6 channels with 2 slots per channel; six matching DIMMs per processor fill every channel once. The DL325 Gen10 has 8 channels with 2 slots each, the ML30 Gen10 two channels with 2 slots each. The model pages give the population counts the picker uses.
1st or 2nd Gen? How to tell
The same Gen10 server takes either processor generation, and the generation decides the kit family. Nothing on the outside of the server tells you which one is installed; the processor model number does.

Read the processor model. The second digit tells you the generation: Silver 4110, Gold 5118 and Gold 6130 are 1st Gen; Silver 4210, Gold 5218 and Gold 6230 are 2nd Gen. A 3 in that position (Gold 6338) means a Gen10 Plus server, which takes DDR4-3200.
Where to find the processor model: iLO › Information › System Information › Processors. On Windows, Task Manager › Performance › CPU. On Linux, lscpu | grep "Model name".
Adding to memory that is already installed? Read the HPE part number on the DIMM label and buy that number. It cannot be wrong.
Rules that hold for every Gen10 (1st Gen CPU) server
1 Match the kit to the processor generation
DDR4-2666 kits are listed for 1st Gen processors and DDR4-2933 kits for 2nd Gen. Mixed configurations are not supported and the server may not boot. If memory is already installed, match the part number on the existing DIMM label.
2 Populate both processors identically
Whatever you install on processor 1, install the same on processor 2, and keep every DIMM in a bank the same capacity and rank. HPE marks odd counts above one per processor unbalanced.
3 Buy -B21, not -F21
Both suffixes describe the same module, but -F21 is sold only inside a factory-built server. The -B21 kits on this page are the ones you can buy and install yourself.
HPE Gen10 (1st Gen CPU) memory questions
How much memory can an HPE Gen10 server hold?
It depends on the model: 6TB in the DL580 Gen10 (48 slots), 3TB in the DL360, DL380 and ML350 Gen10 (24 slots), 2TB in the BL460c Gen10 (16 slots) and the DL325 Gen10 (16 slots), 192GB in the ML110 Gen10 (6 slots) and 64GB in the ML30 Gen10 (4 slots). Each figure assumes the largest DIMM in every slot; with registered DIMMs the maxima are lower. The model pages spell them out.
What type of memory do Gen10 servers with 1st Gen processors use?
HPE DDR4-2666 SmartMemory: registered DIMMs from 8GB to 32GB and load-reduced DIMMs of 64GB and 128GB. The DL325 Gen10 with EPYC 7001 lists its own DDR4-2666 kits (838079-B21 to 838089-B21 and P05592-B21); the ML30 Gen10 takes 8GB and 16GB unbuffered ECC DIMMs.
Can I use DDR4-2933 memory with a 1st Gen processor?
Buy the kit family HPE lists for your processor generation. If the server already has memory installed, add the same part number rather than mixing families; mixed configurations are not supported.
Will the memory run at 2666 MT/s?
Only with a processor rated for it: Xeon Platinum 81xx and Gold 61xx. Gold 51xx and Silver 41xx processors run memory at 2400 MT/s and Bronze 31xx at 2133. The kit still has to be the DDR4-2666 family; the processor simply clocks it lower.
What about the NVDIMM and the standard memory kits listed here?
The 16GB NVDIMM has its own population rules and is sold refurbished; the registered standard memory kits (867853-B21, 867855-B21) are the ML110 Gen10 kits. Both show under "Also listed" because they are not part of a picker family; the ML110 Gen10 page covers the standard kits.
