HPE ProLiant DL380 G5 Parts

The HPE ProLiant DL380 G5 is the two-socket 2U rack server built on the Intel 5000P chipset, taking Quad-Core and Dual-Core Xeon processors across eight Fully Buffered DIMM slots and a front end of eight small form factor drive bays. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.

DL380 G5 Platform at a Glance

  • Removable media: a single slimline bay taking an optical or diskette drive, never both
  • Power and cooling: an 800W hot-plug power supply with redundancy as an option, and fully redundant hot-plug fans shipped N+1
  • Management: embedded HPE Integrated Lights-Out 2 with a dedicated management port, plus a slide-out Systems Insight Display

Two numbers decide most DL380 G5 orders: eight and eight. Eight sockets for Fully Buffered PC2-5300 DIMMs, filled in matched pairs to a ceiling of 64GB, and eight hot-plug 2.5-inch SFF drive bays with no large form factor option and no second cage. Neither can be extended, so both are worth confirming before you buy anything else for this chassis.

DL380 G5 Parts FAQ

What processors does the DL380 G5 support?
Up to two Intel Xeon processors for eight cores in total, from the Quad-Core 5300 and 5400 series or the Dual-Core 5200 series. HPE does not support mixing different processor models, so a second CPU has to match the one already fitted.

How much memory can a DL380 G5 take?
64GB, using eight 8GB PC2-5300 Fully Buffered DIMMs. Leaving the factory 2GB pair in place caps the server at 50GB instead, because two of the eight sockets are then holding 1GB modules.

How many hard drives fit in a DL380 G5?
Eight, in hot-plug 2.5-inch SFF bays numbered 1 to 8. This chassis has no large form factor option and no second drive cage, so eight SFF bays is the whole envelope.

Which RAID controller is built into the DL380 G5?
It depends on the factory model. Performance models shipped the Smart Array P400/512MB BBWC with RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 5 and 6; Base and High Efficiency models the P400/256MB with RAID 0, 1, 1+0 and 5; Entry models the E200/64MB with RAID 0, 1 and 1+0.

Does the DL380 G5 have onboard network ports?
Yes. Two embedded HPE NC373i Multifunction Gigabit adapters give two RJ-45 ports with a TCP/IP Offload Engine, and a separate port serves iLO 2 management. Accelerated iSCSI on those ports requires an optional Licensing Kit.

How many expansion slots does a DL380 G5 have?
Four PCI Express slots are available for use, and on Base and Performance models one of those is already occupied by the Smart Array controller. An optional mixed riser cage swaps two of the full-height slots for PCI-X.
