Two things decide most DL380 G7 orders: the drive cage and the memory type. The chassis ships with eight SFF bays, reaches sixteen with a second SFF cage, or carries six LFF bays instead — and an SFF drive will not seat in an LFF carrier. On memory, Registered and Unbuffered cannot run together, so whichever is fitted today is what an upgrade has to match.

384GB using Registered DIMMs, or 48GB using Unbuffered DIMMs. The server has 18 DDR3 slots, but the maximum registered configuration fills twelve of them with 32GB quad-rank modules at 800MHz.

How many hard drives fit in a DL380 G7?
Eight hot-plug 2.5-inch SFF drives as standard, sixteen with the optional second SFF drive cage, or six 3.5-inch LFF drives with the large form factor cage. The cage fitted to your chassis decides which drives will seat.

Which RAID controller is built into the DL380 G7?
An embedded HPE Smart Array P410i. Entry models ship it with zero memory and RAID 0, 1 and 1+0; base models add a 256MB cache and RAID 5 and 5+0; performance models ship a 1GB flash backed write cache.
