Two limits define this tower, and neither one moves. Memory stops at 32GB because there are four slots and they take unbuffered ECC DDR3 only — registered modules from a larger ProLiant will not run here. Storage stops at whichever cage is on the front: four 3.5-inch bays or eight 2.5-inch ones, never both.

How many drives does an ML310e Gen8 v2 hold?
Four 3.5-inch LFF drives, or eight 2.5-inch SFF drives, depending on which cage the chassis was built with. The LFF front end exists in both non-hot-plug and hot-plug forms.

Which storage controller is built in?
The HPE Dynamic Smart Array B120i. It is a SATA controller with six internal connectors, supports RAID 0, 1 and 1+0, has no cache memory and carries no flash backed write cache option.

Is the ML310e Gen8 v2 the same server as the ML310e Gen8?
No. They are separate models. The v2 in the name is a revision of the server, not of the processor, and the two revisions are built around different processor families - so specifications and part compatibility have to be read against the model you actually own.
