HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen11 Memory

Upgrade your HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen11 with genuine HPE DDR5 Smart Memory, new and refurbished and tested before shipping. This is a 12-channel AMD platform running 1 DIMM per channel — 24 slots, 12 per processor — so module capacity, not slot count, sets your ceiling.

DL365 Gen11 Memory Specifications

  • Memory type: HPE DDR5 Smart Memory Registered (RDIMM), EC8 — LRDIMM and Persistent Memory are not supported
  • Slots: 24 DIMM slots — 12 slots and 12 channels per processor, 1 DIMM per channel
  • Speed grades: 4800 MT/s kits are listed for 4th Generation AMD EPYC CPUs, 6400 MT/s kits for 5th Generation
  • Capacities: 16GB 1Rx8, 32GB 2Rx8, 64GB / 96GB / 128GB 2Rx4, and 256GB 4Rx4 3DS — six in each speed grade
  • Maximum capacity: 6.0 TB, stated as 24 × 256GB RDIMM at 1 DPC
  • Protection: Advanced ECC plus Online Spare rank switching

Match the speed grade to your EPYC generation. The 4800 MT/s DDR5 kits are listed for 4th Generation AMD EPYC CPUs and the 6400 MT/s kits for 5th Generation, in the same six capacities. Mixing x4 with x8 is not allowed, and mixing non-3DS with 3DS is not allowed.

Which DDR5 kits fit the DL365 Gen11?

Read the capacity ceiling exactly as HPE prints it. The memory table gives a maximum of 6.0 TB from 24 × 256GB at 1 DPC. A note under that same table reads "All processors support up to 3 TB of memory per server," and every CPU in both processor tables carries a Max Memory figure of 3 TB.

Choosing the Right DL365 Gen11 Memory

  • Match the speed grade to your EPYC generation — the two kit lists are printed against the two CPU generations. Maximum memory speed is a function of memory type, memory configuration, and processor model.
  • Mixing rules are strict: x4 and x8 cannot be mixed, non-3DS and 3DS cannot be mixed, and 96GB and 128GB 2Rx4 modules cannot be mixed with any other memory. The 128GB 2Rx4 RDIMMs are not 3DS parts.
  • Plan cooling with capacity: 128GB or 256GB DIMMs require the performance heat sink and 7 performance fans, and the 256GB maximum is capped per front end — 24 on SFF, 16 on EDSFF, 20 on GPU.
  • Balance both processors: install DIMMs only if the corresponding processor is installed — with one processor, only half the slots are available.
  • Background reading: maximum memory configurations for Gen11 ProLiants, memory rank in HPE servers, and why memory speed matters.

DL365 Gen11 Memory FAQ

How much RAM does the HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen11 support?
The QuickSpecs memory table gives a maximum RDIMM capacity of 6.0 TB, stated as 24 x 256GB RDIMM at 1 DIMM per channel. A note under that same table states all processors support up to 3 TB of memory per server.

What type of memory does the DL365 Gen11 use?
HPE DDR5 Smart Memory Registered DIMMs (RDIMMs), EC8, in 16GB through 256GB 3DS. LRDIMM and Persistent Memory are not supported.

Should I buy DDR5-4800 or DDR5-6400 for the DL365 Gen11?
Match the grade to your processors. The QuickSpecs list the 4800 MT/s DDR5 kits as compatible with 4th Generation AMD EPYC CPUs and the 6400 MT/s kits as compatible with 5th Generation. Maximum memory speed is a function of memory type, memory configuration, and processor model.

How many DIMM slots does the DL365 Gen11 have?
Twenty-four - 12 slots and 12 channels per processor at 1 DIMM per channel. The CTO notes state that 24 DIMM slots require two processors, and with only one processor installed half the slots are unavailable.

Which DL365 Gen11 DIMMs cannot be mixed?
x4 and x8 modules cannot be mixed, and non-3DS and 3DS cannot be mixed. The QuickSpecs also state that 96GB and 128GB 2Rx4 memory cannot be mixed with any other memory, and note that the 128GB 2Rx4 RDIMMs are not 3DS DIMMs.

Why would 256GB DIMMs change my fan and heat sink order?
Cooling. The QuickSpecs state that if 128GB or 256GB memory is selected, the performance heat sink and 7 performance fans must be selected. The 256GB maximum quantity is also capped per front end: 24 on SFF, 16 on EDSFF, 20 on GPU.
