The HPE ProLiant DL360e Gen8 is the entry-level 1U two-socket rack server of the Gen8 line: Intel Xeon E5-2400 or E5-2400 v2 processors, 12 DDR3 DIMM slots and a choice of 8 SFF or 4 LFF drive bays. DL360e Gen8 Platform at a Glance

• Processors: up to two Intel Xeon E5-2400 v2 or E5-2400 CPUs on the Intel C600 Series chipset — 20 cores at two processors, and mixing models is not supported
• The "e" is not cosmetic: this is the E5-2400 branch of the C600 series, 12 DIMM slots on three channels per processor. The DL360p Gen8 is the E5-2600 branch with 24 slots on four channels, and the two share no processor kits
• Memory: 12 slots — 6 per processor, 3 channels, 2 DIMMs per channel — SmartMemory DDR3 RDIMM, LRDIMM or UDIMM to a stated 384GB
• Storage: 8 SFF or 4 LFF hot-plug bays on Gen8 SmartDrive carriers, each with an optical drive bay; HPE states drive cage changes are not supported
• Storage controller: embedded Dynamic Smart Array B120i (SATA) or B320i (SAS), with Smart Array P-series cards and SAS HBAs optional
• Networking: the HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 366i adapter is fixed on the board; 10GbE and InfiniBand arrive as stand-up PCIe cards
• Expansion: a removable riser cage with two slots — slot 1 full-height/half-length (250mm) x16 PCIe 3.0, slot 2 low profile PCIe 2.0 on four lanes

What is the difference between the HPE ProLiant DL360e Gen8 and the DL360p Gen8?
They are different platforms sharing a 1U shape. The DL360e Gen8 takes Xeon E5-2400 and E5-2400 v2 processors with 12 DIMM slots on three channels per processor and a fixed 366i NIC; the DL360p Gen8 takes E5-2600 processors with 24 slots on four channels and a FlexibleLOM slot.

What processors does the HPE ProLiant DL360e Gen8 support?
Up to two Intel Xeon E5-2400 v2 or E5-2400 series processors on the Intel C600 Series chipset. HPE describes the server as upgradeable to two processors and 20 cores, and states that mixing different processor models is not supported.

How much memory does the DL360e Gen8 support?
The QuickSpecs give 384GB from 12 x 32GB LRDIMMs at 1333MHz, 192GB from 12 x 16GB RDIMMs, or 96GB from 12 x 8GB UDIMMs. Only six of the twelve slots are available with a single processor installed.

How many drives does the DL360e Gen8 hold?
Either 8 SFF 2.5-inch bays or 4 LFF 3.5-inch bays depending on the chassis, and both versions include an optical drive bay. HPE states that drive cage changes are not supported, so an SFF server stays an SFF server.

Does the DL360e Gen8 have onboard network ports?
Yes. The HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 366i adapter is standard on the system board, and the 1Gb iLO 4 management port is separate from those four. There is no FlexibleLOM slot here, so 10GbE and InfiniBand are added as stand-up PCIe cards.
