Processors

One or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 or E5-2600 v2 processors of the same model; a v2 model number ends in v2. Every processor kit on this list is v2. A server with E5-2600 processors cannot take one as its second processor.

HPE supports an upgrade from E5-2600 to v2, with requirements and limitations set out in a separate HP customer advisory. The QuickSpecs does not name the v2 kits that suit an upgrade.

A 1P server has 6 fan modules and a 2P server 8; the processor option kit contains the 2 extra fan modules. DL360p Gen8 Processors

Memory

24 DIMM slots, 12 per processor on 4 channels; one processor uses only its 12. HPE lists separate DDR3 kits by processor version: DDR3-1866 and DDR3-1600 for v2, DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1333 for E5-2600.

Up to 768GB with 32GB LRDIMMs in all 24 slots, 384GB with 16GB RDIMMs, 128GB with 8GB UDIMMs in 16 slots. LRDIMMs cannot be used in the 10 SFF model, so it tops out at 384GB. RDIMMs, LRDIMMs and UDIMMs do not mix. DL360p Gen8 Memory

Drives

8 SFF bays and an optical drive bay as standard; the 10 SFF configure-to-order model has 10 SFF bays and no optical bay, and the 4 LFF one has 4 LFF bays and an optical bay. HPE does not support converting an LFF model to SFF or the reverse. The 10 SFF drive cage needs a cache module on the P420i. DL360p Gen8 Drives

Storage controllers

Embedded Smart Array P420i on every model, SAS and SATA at 6Gb/s, with no cache (P420i/ZM) or a 512MB, 1GB or 2GB flash-backed write cache. On the P420i, RAID 5, 50, 6 and 60 need at least 512MB of cache.

Optional Smart Array P222, P421, P430, P431 and P822 controllers and H220, H221 and H222 host bus adapters. The P222 needs one Mini SAS Straight to Left 33in Cable Assembly (662899-B21) and the P822 two; HPE prints the same one-cable note under the host bus adapters. DL360p Gen8 Storage Controllers

Networking

DL360p Gen8 parts questions

How much memory does the DL360p Gen8 support?

Up to 768GB with two processors and 32GB DDR3 LRDIMMs in all 24 slots. With registered DIMMs the maximum is 384GB (16GB in every slot). A single processor can use only its 12 slots. LRDIMMs cannot be used in the 10 SFF model, so it tops out at 384GB.

Which drives fit the DL360p Gen8?

Hot plug SFF drives in the 8 SFF and 10 SFF models and hot plug LFF drives in the 4 LFF model, in SAS or SATA, as hard drives or SSDs. HP names the SFF drives SC, and the LFF drives SC, SC Converter, SCC or LPC. SFF and LFF models cannot be converted into each other. The 10 SFF model needs a cache module on its P420i.

How do I tell whether my DL360p Gen8 has E5-2600 or E5-2600 v2 processors?

Read the processor model in iLO under System Information › Processors. A v2 model number ends in v2 (E5-2650 v2); a first-version one has no suffix (E5-2670). It decides the memory kit: HPE lists DDR3-1866 and DDR3-1600 kits for v2 and DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1333 kits for E5-2600. Two processors must be the same model, and every processor kit on this list is v2.

Is my server a DL360p Gen8, a DL360e Gen8 or a DL360 Gen9?

Check the processor model number. The DL360p Gen8 runs Xeon E5-2600 processors with no version or v2 (E5-26xx, such as E5-2650 v2), with DDR3 memory in 24 slots. The DL360e Gen8 runs E5-2400 processors (E5-24xx, such as E5-2440 v2), with DDR3 memory in 12 slots. The DL360 Gen9 runs E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors (such as E5-2650 v4), with DDR4 memory in 24 slots. Every memory kit on the DL360e Gen8 list is also on the DL360p Gen8 list, which adds DDR3-1866 kits, so a memory kit alone does not tell the two apart. Their processor kits differ, and the DL360 Gen9 takes DDR4 where the two Gen8 servers take DDR3, so buy processors and memory from the page for your server.

    The TPM (Trusted Platform Module) is a microcontroller chip that can securely store artifacts used to authenticate the server platform. These artifacts can include passwords, certificates and encryption keys. Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption (BitLocker) is a data protection feature available in Windows Server 2008. BitLocker leverages the enhanced security capabilities of a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 1.2. The TPM works with BitLocker to help protect user data and to ensure that a server running Windows Server 2008 has not been tampered with while the system was offline. For more information about TPM, including a white paper, go to: http://www.hp.com/go/TPM. ProLiant OS pre-installed units will come with the partition required for TPM deployment. The TPM key is unique to every TPM deployed server and must be retained. Misplacing or losing the key could result in data loss.
