The HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8 is the performance line of HPE's 1U two-socket rack server: up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 or E5-2600 processors on the Intel C600 chipset, 24 DDR3 DIMM slots and up to 10 SFF hot-plug bays. The "p" matters — the entry-level DL360e Gen8 is a separate platform on the Intel Xeon E5-2400 family. What is the difference between the HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8 and the DL360e Gen8?
They are different platforms in the same 1U chassis family. The DL360p is the performance line, running Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 or E5-2600 processors on the Intel C600 chipset with 24 DIMM slots; the DL360e is the entry line on the Xeon E5-2400 family. Processors and memory do not carry across.

How many drives does the DL360p Gen8 hold?
Eight SFF hot-plug bays plus an optical drive bay is the standard configuration. HPE also lists a 4 LFF version with an optical bay and a 10 SFF version without one, both configure-to-order. LFF is not an upgradeable option from SFF, or the reverse.

How much memory can a DL360p Gen8 take?
The QuickSpecs give 768GB as the maximum, quoted as 24 x 32GB LRDIMMs at 1066MHz. Registered DIMMs reach 384GB (24 x 16GB at 1333MHz) and unbuffered DIMMs 128GB (16 x 8GB at 1333MHz).

How many PCIe slots does the DL360p Gen8 have?
Two, and that is the real constraint in 1U. Slot 1 is a x8 PCIe 3.0 low profile slot and slot 2 a x16 PCIe 3.0 full-height, half-length slot. Both are activated with processor 1, so a second CPU adds no expansion.

Does the DL360p Gen8 come with rails?
Not necessarily. HPE states Gen8 rail kits are optional and no longer included standard, although the 1U SFF Ball Bearing kit ships with some BTO preconfigured channel models. The Ball Bearing kits, the Easy Install kit and their cable management arms are all listed on this page.
