Only one FlexibleLOM goes in the server. HPE states that just one FlexibleLOM adapter can be added, so moving from 1GbE to 10GbE or to InfiniBand is a swap rather than an addition. It costs no PCIe slot, which matters here: there are two PCIe 3.0 slots in total and both are activated by processor 1, so a second CPU buys DIMM slots, not expansion.

Slot budget is the whole argument on a 1U two-socket box. There are two PCIe 3.0 slots, a x16 full-height half-length and a x8 low profile, and both are activated by processor 1 — so a second CPU buys DIMM slots, not expansion. Putting your production fabric on the FlexibleLOM costs no PCIe slot and leaves both free for a controller, an HBA or a workload accelerator.
Choosing the Right DL360p Gen8 Network Adapter
- Populate the FlexibleLOM first. It is a dedicated connector rather than a PCIe slot, so a 10GbE FlexibleLOM is usually the cheapest way off 1GbE on this chassis.
- One FlexibleLOM per server. Only one can be added, so moving to 10GbE or InfiniBand is a swap, not an addition — extra ports come from the PCIe slots.
- Match media to your fabric. BASE-T parts run on existing copper; SFP+ and QSFP parts need direct attach cables or transceivers ordered separately.
- Budget memory for 10GbE. HPE requires at least 2GB of server memory per 10 Gigabit adapter, which matters on a lightly populated single-processor build.

Does the HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8 have onboard network ports?
It has a FlexibleLOM slot rather than fixed onboard ports. Entry and Base models ship with the 1Gb 4-port 331FLR adapter and Performance models with the 10Gb 2-port 530FLR-SFP+; some models carry the 10Gb 2-port 533FLR. The dedicated 1Gb iLO management port is separate from production networking.
What is a FlexibleLOM and can I change it?
FlexibleLOM is HPE's replaceable network mezzanine for Gen8 servers. The adapter slides into a dedicated connector instead of a PCIe slot, so a DL360p Gen8 can move from 1GbE to 10GbE, BASE-T to SFP+, or Ethernet to InfiniBand without spending an expansion slot.
How many FlexibleLOM adapters can a DL360p Gen8 take?
One. The QuickSpecs state that only 1 FlexibleLOM can be added to the server, selected during factory integration, and that the FlexibleLOM adapters in the options list are for upgrading or changing that original configuration.
How many PCIe slots are available for network cards?
Two in total: a x16 PCIe 3.0 full-height, half-length slot and a x8 PCIe 3.0 low profile slot. Both are activated by processor 1, so adding the second processor does not add expansion capacity.
Do DL360p Gen8 10GbE adapters include cables or transceivers?
No. HPE states that direct attach copper cables, or fiber transceivers and cables for fiber-optic environments, must be purchased separately, and calls out specifically that SFP transceivers for the 530FLR-SFP+ are not included with the server.
Can the DL360p Gen8 run InfiniBand?
Yes. HPE lists the InfiniBand FDR 2-port 545QSFP, the FDR/Ethernet 10/40Gb 2-port 544QSFP and two 4X QDR dual-port HCAs as stand-up adapters, plus 544FLR-QSFP FlexibleLOM versions in FDR and QDR. Running 10Gb Ethernet on those QSFP parts needs the QSFP to SFP+ adapter 655874-B21.
