AMD Opteron 6300-series processors, not Intel Xeon. The QuickSpecs list ten models from the 4-core Opteron 6308 to the 16-core 6386SE, all with 16MB of Level 3 cache, and the server takes up to two of them.

How much memory does the DL385p Gen8 support?
The QuickSpecs give 768GB from 24 x 32GB LRDIMMs, across 24 DDR3 DIMM slots. Each processor owns 12 of those slots over four channels, so with one processor installed only half the slots are available.

How many drives does a DL385p Gen8 hold?
It depends on the drive cage the server was built with: 8 SFF, 8 LFF, 12 LFF or 25 SFF. The 8 SFF chassis can take an optional second 8 SFF cage for 16 bays, which requires an additional Smart Array controller.

Is there an HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen9?
No. HPE's DL385 line runs from the G1 through the DL385 G7 and DL385p Gen8, then resumes at the DL385 Gen10. There is no Gen9 model in this family, so a DL385p Gen8 upgrade path skips a generation.

What RAID controller is built into the DL385p Gen8?
The embedded HPE Smart Array P420i. The Entry model carries it with Zero Memory for RAID 0 and 1; Storage Centric, Dedicated Workload and Maximized Consolidation models add 512MB, 1GB or 2GB of flash-backed write cache and RAID 5, 5+0, 6 and 6+0.
