DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 at a glance

Processors

One or two AMD EPYC processors of the same model: 7003-series (model numbers 7xx3), or the 7002-series 7252, 7302 or 7402.

Processor kits include no heat sink or fans: above 155W, the High Performance Heat Sink Kit (P14610-B21) and the Max Performance Fan Kit (P14608-B21); at 155W or less, the Standard Heat Sink Kit (P39994-B21) and the Standard Fan Kit (P37042-B21).

The 7xx3X models also need DIMM blanks and do not support a mid-tray cage. With the 4LFF mid-tray cage, HPE limits processors to 225W (turbo to 240W). DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 Processors

Memory

32 DIMM slots, 16 per processor on 8 channels; all 32 need two processors. DDR4-3200 kits: RDIMMs of 8GB to 64GB, a 128GB LRDIMM and a 256GB 3DS LRDIMM; the three types do not mix, nor do x4 and x8 kits. Up to 8TB with 256GB LRDIMMs in all 32 slots, 2TB with 64GB RDIMMs; 4TB per processor.

HPE allows the 256GB LRDIMM in three builds only, at 25°C ambient: 8LFF, and 8SFF or 16SFF with SAS or SATA drives. 128GB and 256GB LRDIMMs do not go in an SFF chassis with a mid-tray cage.

With two DIMMs per channel the 8GB to 128GB kits keep 3200 MT/s and the 256GB runs at 2933 MT/s. A mid-tray cage with a processor of 155W or more needs the DIMM blank kit (P07818-B21). DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 Memory

Drives

Up to 36 SFF drives (24 front, 8 mid-tray, 4 rear) or 20 LFF drives (12 front, 4 mid-tray, 4 rear), on the Basic Carrier (BC) and Low Profile (LP) carriers; the 4LFF rear cage uses the primary and secondary riser space.

Up to 24 NVMe drives in front of the 8SFF model, 32 with an 8SFF mid-tray cage; NVMe cages need a tri-mode controller or an NVMe bundle kit, U.3 and U.2 cages do not mix, and rear NVMe drives must be 10W or less.

Rear drives, 12 or more LFF drives and the mid-tray cages need the Max Performance fan kit. SATA M.2 SSDs on a PCIe M.2 kit, not with a mid-tray cage or the NS204i-p. DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 Drives

Storage controllers

The embedded SATA controller runs in AHCI mode by default; SR100i software RAID covers up to 2 U.3 NVMe SSDs, in UEFI mode only, on the 8SFF and 8LFF models.

Smart Array E208i-a, E208i-p and E208e-p, and P408i-a, P408i-p, P408e-p and P816i-a; tri-mode MR216i, MR416i, SR416i-a and SR932i-p controllers for NVMe as well as SAS and SATA. Performance RAID controllers need the HPE Smart Storage Battery (P01366-B21).

Before you order SFF drives, check the drive carrier. The DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 uses Basic Carrier (BC) drive cages, not the Smart Carrier (SC) cages of the DL385 Gen10 Plus, and every SFF drive on this list has BC in its name, such as P28352-B21. LFF drives use the Low Profile (LP) carrier on both servers, so LFF drives such as 881781-B21 fit either. Both servers take the same DDR4-3200 kits, so memory does not tell them apart; a 7xx3 processor (EPYC 7313, 7443, 7763) means a v2, since HPE does not support 7003 processors in the Gen10 Plus. Gen10 Plus, Gen10 Plus v2 or Gen11? How to tell

A 7xx3 processor means a Gen10 Plus v2 and a 9xx4 or 9xx5 processor a Gen11. The Gen10 Plus and the v2 share three 7xx2 models and their memory kits, so with a 7xx2 processor the SFF drive cages tell them apart: Smart Carrier on the Gen10 Plus, Basic Carrier on the v2. How much memory does the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 support?

Up to 8TB with two processors: 256GB DDR4-3200 LRDIMMs in all 32 slots, up to 4TB per processor. HPE allows the 256GB LRDIMM in three builds only, at 25°C ambient: 8LFF, and 8SFF or 16SFF with SAS or SATA drives. With 64GB registered DIMMs the maximum is 2TB. All 32 slots need two processors. 128GB and 256GB LRDIMMs do not go in an SFF chassis with a mid-tray cage. With two DIMMs per channel the 8GB to 128GB kits keep 3200 MT/s and the 256GB runs at 2933 MT/s. A mid-tray cage with a processor of 155W or more needs the DIMM blank kit (P07818-B21).

Which drives fit the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2?

2.5-inch SFF drives on HPE's Basic Carrier (BC) in SAS, SATA or U.3 NVMe; 3.5-inch LFF drives on the Low Profile (LP) carrier in SAS or SATA, plus LFF LPC SSDs; and SATA M.2 SSDs on HPE's M.2 enablement kit. The controller and the drive cage decide which interfaces work.

How do I tell which processors my DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 has?

Read the processor model in iLO under System Information › Processors. HPE lists EPYC 7003 processors for the v2, whose model numbers have 3 as the last digit, such as the 7313, 7443 or 7763 (and the F and X models such as the 75F3 and 7773X), plus the 7252, 7302 and 7402. Two processors must be the same model. Processor kits come without a heat sink or fans: above 155W, order the High Performance Heat Sink Kit (P14610-B21) and the Max Performance Fan Kit (P14608-B21); at 155W or less, the Standard Heat Sink Kit (P39994-B21) and the Standard Fan Kit (P37042-B21).

Is my server a DL385 Gen10 Plus v2, a Gen10 Plus or a Gen11?

Check the processor model number. A 7xx3 processor, such as the 7313, means a Gen10 Plus v2. The Gen11 runs EPYC 9004 or 9005 processors (9xx4 or 9xx5, such as the 9124 or 9555) with DDR5 memory in 24 slots. HPE lists 7xx2 processors for the Gen10 Plus and does not support 7003 processors in it; the v2 also lists the 7252, 7302 and 7402, so with one of those check the SFF drive cages: Basic Carrier (BC) on the v2, Smart Carrier (SC) on the Gen10 Plus. LFF drives use the Low Profile (LP) carrier on both. The Gen10 Plus and the v2 take the same DDR4-3200 kits; processors and SFF drives differ, so buy those from the page for your generation.
