HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 Memory
Upgrade your HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 with genuine HPE DDR4 Smart Memory, in stock new and refurbished and tested before shipping. Each EPYC processor drives 8 memory channels across 16 slots, so a two-socket system fills 32 slots at up to 3200 MT/s.
DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 Memory Specifications
- Memory type: HPE DDR4 Smart Memory, Registered (RDIMM) — LRDIMM and 3DS LRDIMM cover capacity builds but cannot be mixed with RDIMMs
- Slots: 32 DIMM slots — 16 per processor, 8 channels each, 2 DIMMs per channel; all 32 require two processors
- Speed: DDR4-3200 CAS-22-22-22; 8GB through 128GB modules hold 3200 MT/s at 1 and 2 DIMMs per channel
- RDIMM kits: 8GB single-rank x8, 16GB single-rank x4, 16GB dual-rank x8, 32GB dual-rank x4, and 64GB dual-rank x4
- Maximum capacity: 8.0TB — 32 × 256GB LRDIMM, at 3200 MT/s at 1 DIMM per channel and 2933 MT/s at 2 DPC
- Mixing rules: x4 and x8 modules cannot be mixed, and the processor caps the memory speed
Don't mix DIMM types or organizations. HPE's mixing table forbids RDIMM with LRDIMM and forbids either with 3DS LRDIMM, and x4 modules cannot be mixed with x8. Use one type across all 32 slots, and remember the installed processor caps the memory speed.
How much memory can the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 hold?
| Configuration | Total capacity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 16 × 32GB (2 CPUs) | 512GB | One per channel, full 3200 MT/s |
| 32 × 32GB (2 CPUs, all slots) | 1TB | Slots full and still 3200 MT/s at 2 DPC |
| 32 × 64GB (2 CPUs, all slots) | 2TB | Ceiling for the RDIMM kits |
| 32 × 128GB LRDIMM (2 CPUs) | 4TB | Holds 3200 MT/s at 2 DPC |
| 32 × 256GB LRDIMM (2 CPUs) | 8.0TB | Platform maximum — drops to 2933 MT/s at 2 DPC |
The 64GB dual-rank x4 RDIMM is the practical sweet spot: the largest Registered kit HPE lists here, and it holds 3200 MT/s in every slot. Chassis bites at the top end: 128GB and 256GB LRDIMMs are not supported in SFF chassis with a mid-tray, and 256GB LRDIMMs are excluded from 12 LFF and 24 SFF builds.
Choosing the Right DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 Memory
- Populate both processors identically, in even quantities across the 8 channels per CPU.
- Never mix DIMM types: HPE's mixing table forbids RDIMM with LRDIMM, and forbids either with 3DS LRDIMM — and x4 with x8 is not allowed. See memory rank in HPE servers.
- The processor caps the speed — more on why memory speed matters and CAS latency.
- Mid-tray builds need blanks: the DDR4 DIMM Blank Kit is required with a 4 LFF or 8 SFF mid-tray and a 155W-or-higher processor.
- Plan the upgrade first with our server memory upgrade checklist.

DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 Memory FAQ
How much RAM does the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 support?
Up to 8.0TB - 32 x 256GB LRDIMMs with both processors installed. Every supported EPYC processor allows up to 4TB per socket, and with one CPU only 16 of the 32 slots are available.
What type of memory does the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 use?
HPE DDR4 Smart Memory at DDR4-3200 CAS-22-22-22. Registered DIMMs are listed from 8GB to 64GB; LRDIMM and 3DS LRDIMM cover the 128GB and 256GB capacity builds. DDR5 and unbuffered modules do not fit.
Can I mix RDIMMs and LRDIMMs in the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2?
No. The QuickSpecs mixing table allows RDIMM with RDIMM, LRDIMM with LRDIMM, and 3DS LRDIMM with 3DS LRDIMM only - every cross combination is not allowed. Mixing x4 and x8 modules is also prohibited.
Does the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 run all memory at 3200 MT/s?
The 8GB through 128GB modules run 3200 MT/s at both 1 and 2 DIMMs per channel. The 256GB module runs 3200 MT/s at 1 DIMM per channel but drops to 2933 MT/s at 2 DIMMs per channel, and the processor model can lower the ceiling further.
How many DIMM slots does the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2 have?
32 - sixteen per processor, arranged as 8 channels per processor with 2 DIMMs per channel. All 32 slots require two processors installed.
Are there configurations where large LRDIMMs are not supported?
Yes. 128GB and 256GB LRDIMMs are not supported in an SFF chassis with a mid-tray, and 256GB LRDIMMs are not supported in 12 LFF, 12 LFF plus 4 LFF mid-tray, 24 SFF, 24 SFF plus 8 SFF mid-tray, or 8/16 SFF chassis with NVMe drives installed.
