HPE ProLiant BL460c Gen10 Parts

The HPE ProLiant BL460c Gen10 is a half-height c-Class server blade built on the Intel C621 chipset, taking one or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors across 16 DDR4 DIMM slots. It is not a standalone machine: it plugs into an HPE BladeSystem c7000 or c3000 enclosure, which supplies its power, its cooling and the interconnect bays its network ports land in. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.

BL460c Gen10 Platform at a Glance

  • Form factor: half-height c-Class server blade, 7.11 × 2.18 × 20.37 in and 14.00 lb fully populated — it has no power supplies and no fans of its own
  • Enclosure: HPE BladeSystem c7000, 10U and up to sixteen of these blades, or c3000, 6U and up to eight; HPE calls for 10 fans in the c7000 and 6 in the c3000 for optimal cooling
  • Processors: one or two Intel Xeon Scalable, first or second generation, from the six-core Bronze 3104 to the 26-core Platinum 8164, each carrying 48 lanes of PCIe 3.0
  • Memory: 16 DDR4 DIMM slots — six channels per processor, eight DIMMs per processor — taking HPE SmartMemory Registered or Load Reduced modules to 1TB registered or 2TB load reduced
  • Drive bays: two hot-plug small form factor HPE SmartDrive bays, or four ultra form factor bays, taking SAS and SATA hard drives and SAS, SATA and NVMe solid state drives
  • Storage controller: HPE Smart Array P204i-b SR Gen10 with 1GB flash backed write cache, or the embedded Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 software RAID on chipset SATA
  • Networking: one FlexibleLOM, always dual port, at 10Gb or 20Gb, with one port routed to interconnect bay 1 and the other to bay 2
  • Expansion: two I/O mezzanine slots, both x16 PCIe 3.0 — Type A in slot 1, Type A or Type B in slot 2, which needs a processor in socket 2 to come alive
  • Management: embedded HPE iLO 5 with a 10/100 Mbps link to the enclosure Onboard Administrator, UEFI 2.6 with Secure Boot and an immutable silicon root of trust, plus an internal Micro SDHC slot and a USB 3.0 connector
  • Also listed below: LPe1605 and QMH2672 16Gb Fibre Channel host bus adapters and the FDR InfiniBand 544+M mezzanine adapter

This is a blade, not a rack server. The BL460c Gen10 has no power supplies, no fans and no rails of its own — an HPE BladeSystem c7000 or c3000 enclosure supplies all three, and every network port lands in one of that enclosure's interconnect bays. What you buy for the blade itself is memory, two drives, a controller, processors and the cards that feed those bays.

Specifications on this page are taken from the HPE QuickSpecs for this server, HPE ProLiant BL460c Gen10 Server Blade QuickSpecs, Version 22.

BL460c Gen10 Parts FAQ

What enclosure does the BL460c Gen10 need?
An HPE BladeSystem c7000 or c3000 enclosure. The blade has no power supplies, fans or rails of its own - the enclosure provides power, cooling and the interconnect bays its network ports land in.

What processors does the BL460c Gen10 support?
One or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors on the Intel C621 chipset, first or second generation. Kits for both are listed here, from the six-core Bronze 3104 and 3204 up to the 26-core Platinum 8164.

How much memory can a BL460c Gen10 take?
2TB using sixteen 128GB octal-rank Load Reduced DIMMs, or 1TB using sixteen 64GB Registered DIMMs with a second-generation processor. The blade has 16 DDR4 slots, eight per processor, and LRDIMMs and RDIMMs cannot be mixed.

How many drives fit in a BL460c Gen10?
Two hot-plug small form factor SmartDrive bays, or four ultra form factor bays. M.2 solid state drives mount internally instead, on the M.2 enablement kit, and anything beyond that lives on the SAN or on a storage blade in the enclosure.

Which storage controller does the BL460c Gen10 use?
Either the HPE Smart Array P204i-b SR Gen10 with 1GB flash backed write cache, or the embedded Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 software RAID running on chipset SATA. The P408e-m SR Gen10 mezzanine controller is the option for storage outside the blade.

Can I move parts from a BL460c Gen9 into a Gen10 blade?
Very little. HPE states that memory from previous generation servers is not supported here, and the storage controllers are a different family. The mezzanine cards, FlexibleLOMs and SmartDrive carriers are the parts that do carry across.
