HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen9 Parts

The HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen9 is the four-socket 2U rack server built on the Intel C610 chipset, running one, two or four Intel Xeon E5-4600 v3 or v4 processors across 48 DDR4 DIMM slots and a small form factor front end that reaches 24 bays. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.

DL560 Gen9 Platform at a Glance

  • Processors: one, two or four Intel Xeon E5-4600 v3 or v4, from six cores to 22, with 25MB to 55MB of L3 cache; four processors also need the DL560 Gen9 CPU Mezzanine Board kit
  • Memory: 48 DDR4 slots — 12 per processor, four channels per processor, three DIMMs per channel — taking HPE SmartMemory RDIMMs to 1.5TB or LRDIMMs to 6TB
  • Memory and socket count: one processor makes a quarter of the DIMM slots usable; all 48 come live only with four fitted
  • Drive bays: eight hot-plug 2.5-inch SFF bays on Entry and Base models, sixteen on Performance, upgradeable to 24 — or 18 with a Universal Media Bay fitted
  • Maximum internal storage: 48TB on 24 x 2TB SFF SAS or SATA hard drives, or 92TB on 24 x 3.84TB SFF solid state drives
  • Storage controller: embedded Dynamic Smart Array B140i on Entry models, Flexible Smart Array P440ar with 2GB flash backed write cache on Base, Smart Array P840 with 4GB on Performance
  • Networking: a dedicated FlexibleLOM slot taking 1Gb, 10Gb, 10GBASE-T or converged adapters — Entry models shipped the 1Gb 4-port 331FLR, Base and Performance the FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 533FLR-T
  • Expansion: seven PCIe 3.0 slots across the primary and optional secondary risers, plus separate FlexibleLOM and Adaptive RAID on Chip slots; availability depends on the processor count
  • Power and cooling: two Common Slot hot-plug supply bays taking 1200W and 1500W units rated up to 94% efficiency, with six hot-plug fans shipped N+1 redundant
  • Management: embedded HPE iLO 4 with 4GB NAND and a dedicated management port; UEFI by default, legacy BIOS field-selectable

On a four-socket server the socket count is the specification. The DL560 Gen9 runs one, two or four processors — never three — and the DIMM slots belong to them: one processor lights a quarter of the 48 slots, four light all of them. Four processors also need the DL560 Gen9 CPU Mezzanine Board kit, which is what carries the third and fourth sockets.

Specifications on this page are taken from the HPE QuickSpecs for this server, HPE ProLiant DL560 Generation9 (Gen9) QuickSpecs, Version 22.

DL560 Gen9 Parts FAQ

How many processors does a DL560 Gen9 take?
One, two or four Intel Xeon E5-4600 v3 or v4 processors. Three is not a supported population, and a four-processor configuration also needs the HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen9 CPU Mezzanine Board Kit.

How much memory can a DL560 Gen9 hold?
6TB using 48 x 128GB octal-rank LRDIMMs at 2400MT/s, or 1.5TB using 48 x 32GB dual-rank RDIMMs. The server has 48 DDR4 slots, twelve per processor.

Why are most of my DIMM slots unavailable?
Because DIMM slots belong to processors on this platform. With one processor installed only a quarter of the 48 slots are available; all 48 come live when four processors are fitted.

How many drives fit in a DL560 Gen9?
Eight hot-plug 2.5-inch SFF drives on Entry and Base models and sixteen on Performance models, upgradeable to 24 with the optional cage and backplane kits. Fitting a Universal Media Bay caps the total at 18.

Does the DL560 Gen9 take 3.5-inch drives?
No. This chassis is small form factor only - every drive bay is a 2.5-inch hot-plug bay, and HPE does not offer a large form factor front end for it.

What network ports does a DL560 Gen9 have?
Whatever FlexibleLOM card is fitted to it. Entry models shipped the 1Gb 4-port 331FLR and Base and Performance models the FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 533FLR-T. A dedicated iLO 4 port sits alongside for management.
