• Processor: one Intel Xeon E3-1220Lv2 through E3-1290v2, or an Intel Pentium G2120, on the Intel C204 chipset — 2 or 4 cores, 17W to 87W, all rated for 1600MHz DDR3. Every Xeon appears in this QuickSpecs as a factory-integration kit only.
• Memory: 4 DIMM slots, 2 channels at 2 DIMMs per channel, SmartMemory DDR3 unbuffered ECC only, maximum 32GB (4 x 8GB at 1600MHz)
• Drive bays: 8 SFF hot-plug, or 4 LFF hot-plug or non-hot-plug, plus an optical drive bay — HPE states LFF is not an upgrade path from SFF or the reverse

Know which chassis you have before you order. The DL320e Gen8 ships as either an 8 SFF or a 4 LFF machine, and HPE states LFF is not an upgrade path from SFF or the reverse — nor is non-hot-plug LFF to hot-plug LFF. The same 1U box gives you two PCIe slots, four DIMM slots and a 32GB memory ceiling, so plan storage, networking and memory against those limits together.

How many drives fit in a DL320e Gen8?
Either 8 SFF (2.5-inch) hot-plug drives or 4 LFF (3.5-inch) drives in hot-plug or non-hot-plug form, depending on which chassis you have. HPE states LFF versions are not an upgradeable option from SFF models or the reverse, and the same is true between non-hot-plug and hot-plug LFF.

How many expansion slots does the DL320e Gen8 have?
Two. Slot 1 is a low-profile PCIe 2.0 slot with four electrical lanes in an x8 connector; slot 2 is a half-length, full-height PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. HPE notes that PCIe 3.0 support comes with the Intel Xeon E3-1200 v2 family only.
