Cooling scales with drive count. HPE requires the Maximum Performance fan kit for 12 LFF or more drives, for any rear drive cage, and for high-performance NVMe — and NVMe drives above 18W are not supported in the mid tray.

- Identify your drive boxes first. NVMe needs the 8 NVMe SFF box, which replaces box 1, 2, or 3 in an SFF chassis; a SAS/SATA box will not run NVMe.

What drive carrier does the DL385 Gen10 Plus use?
SFF drives use the HPE Smart Carrier (SC) tray and LFF drives use the Low Profile (LP) carrier. Order drives already mounted in the correct carrier - a bare drive or the wrong tray will not seat in the backplane.
What is the maximum storage capacity of a DL385 Gen10 Plus?

What is the difference between Read Intensive and Mixed Use SSDs?
Endurance. Read Intensive drives are built for read-heavy serving and cost less per terabyte, Mixed Use drives carry higher write endurance for databases and virtualization, and the Write Intensive NVMe part listed for this server sits above both. Never mix endurance classes in one array.
Do extra drives require the Maximum Performance fan kit?
In several cases, yes. HPE calls for it with 12 LFF or more drives, with any rear drive cage, and with high-performance NVMe. The 12 LFF and 24 SFF chassis already ship with six performance fans.
