HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus Memory
The DL385 Gen10 Plus has 32 DIMM slots, 16 per processor, and takes one kit family: HPE DDR4-3200 SmartMemory, RDIMMs from 8GB to 64GB and LRDIMMs of 128GB and 256GB. Every kit on this page fits every DL385 Gen10 Plus with AMD EPYC 7002 series processors, so the decisions are how many processors you have and how much memory you want. Maximum is 8TB with two processors and 256GB LRDIMMs in every slot, at 2933 MT/s (two DIMMs per channel).

How population and speed fit together
Each processor has 8 memory channels with 2 slots per channel. One DIMM in every channel runs the kit at 3200 MT/s; filling the second slot doubles capacity and steps the speed down to 2933 MT/s.

HPE: "3200 MT/s memory SKUs offer a transfer rate of 3200 MT/s at 1 DIMM per channel and 2933 MT/s at 2 DIMMs per channel"; every listed EPYC 7002 processor is rated 3200. The QuickSpecs give no DIMM-count table (they point to HPE's Gen10 Plus population-rules paper); the picker uses the balanced layouts 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 per processor.
Three rules that avoid a return
1 RDIMM or LRDIMM, never both
The 8GB to 64GB kits are RDIMMs; the 128GB and 256GB kits are LRDIMMs. A server takes one or the other, and HPE does not allow mixing x4 and x8 DIMMs, or 256GB 3DS LRDIMMs with other LRDIMMs. If memory is already installed, match the part number on the existing DIMM label.
2 Fill channels for bandwidth
Eight matching DIMMs per processor fill every channel once. Four per processor is a sensible budget build; sixteen per processor is the capacity maximum. Populate both processors identically.
3 Mind the 256GB kit
HPE's mixing table allows RDIMMs only with RDIMMs, LRDIMMs only with LRDIMMs, and the 256GB 3DS LRDIMM only with itself. The DL385 Gen10 Plus takes AMD EPYC 7001 and 7002 processors; EPYC 7003 belongs to the Gen10 Plus v2.

How much memory does the HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 Plus support?
Up to 8TB with two processors: 32 slots with 256GB DDR4-3200 LRDIMMs in every one. With 64GB registered DIMMs the maximum is 2TB. Filling every slot puts two DIMMs on each channel, so the 8TB build runs at 2933 MT/s. HPE: every EPYC processor supports up to 4TB; 32 slots need two processors.
What type of memory does the DL385 Gen10 Plus use?
HPE DDR4-3200 SmartMemory for AMD EPYC 7002 series processors: registered DIMMs from 8GB to 64GB and load-reduced DIMMs of 128GB and 256GB.
What speed will the memory run at?
3200 MT/s with one DIMM per channel (up to 8 per processor). With both slots of a channel filled, 2933 MT/s.
Can I use EPYC 7003 processors or Gen10 memory?
No. HPE states that EPYC 7003 processors cannot be supported in this server (they belong to the DL385 Gen10 Plus v2), and the DDR4-3200 kits on this page are the family listed for it; the DDR4-2666 and DDR4-2933 Gen10 kits are not listed.
