DL345 Gen11 at a glance

Processors

One AMD EPYC processor, 4th Gen (model numbers 9xx4) or 5th Gen (9xx5). Each needs a heat sink chosen by its wattage: up to 240W the Standard Heat Sink and Standard Fan Kit; 260W or more the Performance Heat Sink, with the Performance Fan Kit by HPE's heat sink notes.

With a 4LFF or 8SFF mid-tray drive cage, only processors of 300W or less, with the 1U Performance Heat Sink and the Performance Fan Kit. DL345 Gen11 Processors

Memory

12 DIMM slots, one per channel. DDR5-4800 kits for 4th Gen processors, DDR5-6400 for 5th Gen.

Up to 3TB with 256GB DIMMs in all 12 slots. HPE rates both generations for 3TB, but the only 256GB kit it lists for this server is DDR5-6400, under its 5th Gen heading; the largest DDR5-4800 kit is 128GB.

256GB kits need the Performance Fan Kit and cannot be used with a 4LFF or 8SFF mid-tray cage. Install 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 DIMMs; x4 and x8 kits do not mix, nor do 3DS and non-3DS kits. DL345 Gen11 Memory

Drives

Up to 34 SFF drives (24 front, 8 mid-tray, 2 rear), 20 LFF drives (12 front, 4 mid-tray, 4 rear) or 36 E3.S NVMe drives in the EDSFF model. Mid-tray cages need a processor of 300W or less, the 1U Performance Heat Sink and the Performance Fan Kit.

Rear cages need the Performance Fan Kit, and only one rear cage fits. The 4LFF rear cage is factory-installed only, in the 8LFF model. It needs the 12LFF front bay and two primary risers, or a primary riser, the low-profile riser and an NS204i-u.

The 8SFF x4 and x1 backplanes do not mix. The NS204i-u boot device needs the NS204i-u Cable Kit. DL345 Gen11 Drives

Storage controllers

MR216i, MR408i, MR416i and MR932i-p controllers and the SR932i-p, plus the Smart Array E208e-p for external drives. MR and SR controllers do not mix. The cache controllers need the 96W Smart Storage Battery or the Smart Hybrid Capacitor. DL345 Gen11 Storage Controllers

Networking

No embedded network ports: networking comes from an OCP 3.0 or stand-up adapter. Two OCP 3.0 slots, PCIe adapters up to 200Gb and a dedicated 1Gb iLO port.

100/200Gb and InfiniBand adapters need the Performance Fan Kit. The OCP InfiniBand, BCM57504 4-port and Intel E810 100Gb OCP3 adapters need the OCP1 Upgrade Cable Kit (P56658-B21). DL345 Gen11 Networking Adapters

Expansion

Two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots by default, four with the 4 PCIe x16 Enablement Kit and six with the 6 PCIe x16 Enablement Kit; neither kit fits with the 4LFF rear drive cage. Riser cards

Cooling

The Performance Fan Kit is required with the GPU model, the mid-tray and rear drive cages, 100/200Gb and InfiniBand adapters and 256GB memory, and, by HPE's heat sink notes, with processors of 260W or more. Fan kits

Power

Flex Slot hot-plug power supplies from 500W to 1800W-2200W, including a 1600W -48VDC model, which needs its cable lug kit. The 1600W supplies need high line voltage (200VAC to 240VAC). All power supplies in a server must match. DL345 Gen11 Power Supplies

Before you order memory, check the processor generation. The last digit of the EPYC model number tells you: a 4 (EPYC 9124, 9354P) is 4th Gen and takes DDR5-4800 kits; a 5 (EPYC 9555P) is 5th Gen and takes DDR5-6400 kits. A DL345 with 24 DIMM slots is a Gen12, not a Gen11, even with a 9xx5 processor, and a 7 with a last digit of 2 or 3 (EPYC 7313P) means a DL345 Gen10 Plus. The processor model number tells the DL345 Gen10 Plus from the Gen11 and Gen12, and the DIMM slot count tells the Gen11 from the Gen12. The generation decides the memory you can buy, though every Gen12 kit is also a Gen11 kit for 5th Gen processors.

How much memory does the DL345 Gen11 support?

Up to 3TB: 256GB DDR5 RDIMMs in all 12 slots. HPE rates both 4th and 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors for 3TB, but the only 256GB kit it lists for this server is DDR5-6400, under its 5th Gen heading; the largest DDR5-4800 kit is 128GB. 256GB kits need the Performance Fan Kit and cannot be used with a 4LFF or 8SFF mid-tray drive cage. Install 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 DIMMs, and do not mix x4 and x8 kits or 3DS and non-3DS kits.

Which drives fit the DL345 Gen11?

2.5-inch SFF drives on HPE's Basic Carrier (BC) in SAS, SATA or U.3 NVMe; 3.5-inch LFF LP drives in SAS or SATA; E3.S EC1 NVMe drives in the EDSFF and GPU models; and SATA or NVMe M.2 SSDs on the M.2 enablement kit, two of the same interface. Which interfaces work depends on whether the drive cage is connected to a controller or attached directly.

How do I tell which processor generation my DL345 Gen11 has?

Read the processor model in iLO under System Information › Processors. The last digit of the EPYC model number is the generation: a 4 (EPYC 9124, 9354P) means 4th Gen, a 5 (EPYC 9555P) means 5th Gen. It decides the memory kit: DDR5-4800 for 4th Gen, DDR5-6400 for 5th Gen.

Is my server a DL345 Gen11, a Gen10 Plus or a Gen12?

Check the processor model number. A last digit of 2 or 3 (7xx2 or 7xx3, such as EPYC 7313P) means a DL345 Gen10 Plus, with DDR4-3200 memory in 16 slots. A 4th Gen processor (9xx4, such as EPYC 9354P) means a DL345 Gen11. A 5th Gen processor (9xx5, such as EPYC 9555P) runs in both the Gen11 and the Gen12, so count the DIMM slots: 12 on the Gen11, 24 on the Gen12, which takes DDR5-6400 kits only. Every Gen12 memory kit is also a Gen11 kit for 5th Gen processors, but the Gen11's DDR5-4800 kits are not Gen12 kits, so buy memory and processors from the page for your generation.

  • The maximum memory speed and capacity is a function of the memory type, memory configuration, and processor model
  • The maximum speed capability of the memory system is governed by the combination of the CPU and any other DIMMs installed in the server. If higher speed DIMMs are installed with a CPU that only supports a lower memory speed, the DIMMs will only run at the (lower) memory speed supported by the processor. Likewise, if memory DIMMs are mixed with slower DIMMs within a server, all DIMMs will run at the slower memory speed. For further information please refer to the Memory Population Rules for your specific server.
  • The -B21 memory SKUs shown in this document are to be used when ordering stand-alone memory only. For each -B21 SKU, there is a corresponding -F21 SKU which is to be used when configuring servers with integrated memory DIMMs.
