DL345 Gen12 at a glance

Processors

One 5th Gen AMD EPYC processor (model numbers 9xx5). It needs a heat sink and fan kit chosen by its wattage: up to 240W the Standard Heat Sink and Standard Fan Kit, above 240W the Performance Heat Sink and Performance Fan Kit.

The GPU model takes the Performance Heat Sink and Performance Fan Kit at any wattage. DL345 Gen12 Processors

Memory

24 DIMM slots: 12 channels, 2 per channel. DDR5-6400 registered kits from 32GB to 256GB; no DDR5-4800 or DDR5-5600 kit is supported.

HPE's kit table gives every listed kit 5200 MT/s with one DIMM per channel and 4000 MT/s with two. HPE's overview names 4400 MT/s as the server's maximum with two. Up to 6TB with 256GB DIMMs in all 24 slots, 3TB in 12.

Install 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 or 24 DIMMs; x4 and x8 kits do not mix, nor do 3DS and non-3DS kits. 128GB and 256GB DIMMs need the Performance Fan Kit. DL345 Gen12 Memory

Drives

Up to 24 SFF or 36 E3.S NVMe drives in the SFF/EDSFF model, which can mix SFF and E3.S cages. Up to 12 LFF SAS/SATA drives in the 8LFF model: it ships with 8 LFF bays, and its optional bay takes the 4LFF Backplane Kit, 2 SFF drives or the optical drive. 8 SFF or 8 E3.S drives in the GPU model.

The SFF/EDSFF and GPU models ship with no drive cage; their 8SFF and 4E3.S cages are options. HPE also lists a rear 2SFF tri-mode drive cage for all three models.

The 4EDSFF cage needs the Multipurpose Drive Cage Kit, and EDSFF cages need the Performance Fan Kit. The NS204i-u v2 boot device needs its rear cable kit or front enablement kit. DL345 Gen12 Drives

Storage controllers

MR216i, MR408i, MR416i and MR932i-p controllers, plus the Smart Array E208e-p for external drives. One storage battery or capacitor per server. DL345 Gen12 Storage Controllers

Networking

No embedded network ports: networking comes from an OCP 3.0 or stand-up adapter. Up to two rear OCP 3.0 slots, two more at the front of the SFF/EDSFF and GPU models, and a dedicated 1Gb iLO port.

Expansion

Up to six PCIe 5.0 x16 full-height slots: slot 6 by default, the others with the slot 3, slot 1/2 and slot 4/5 riser kits; the slot 1/2 kit needs the slot 3 kit. Riser cards

Before you order memory, make sure the server is a Gen12, not a Gen11. Both run 5th Gen EPYC processors (9xx5, such as EPYC 9555P), so count the DIMM slots: a DL345 Gen12 has 24 and takes DDR5-6400 kits only; a DL345 Gen11 has 12. A 4th Gen processor (9xx4, such as EPYC 9354P) means a DL345 Gen11, whose DDR5-4800 kits HPE does not support in the Gen12. Find the model in iLO under System Information › Processors.

The processor model number tells the DL345 Gen10 Plus from the Gen11 and Gen12, and the DIMM slot count tells the Gen11 from the Gen12. The generation decides the memory you can buy, though every Gen12 kit is also a Gen11 kit for 5th Gen processors.

How much memory does the DL345 Gen12 support?

Up to 6TB: 256GB DDR5-6400 RDIMMs in all 24 slots, which run at 4000 MT/s with two DIMMs per channel. With one DIMM per channel the maximum is 3TB (12 x 256GB) at 5200 MT/s. 128GB and 256GB DIMMs need the Performance Fan Kit. x4 and x8 kits do not mix, nor do 3DS and non-3DS kits.

Which drives fit the DL345 Gen12?

2.5-inch SFF drives on HPE's Basic Carrier (BC) in SAS, SATA or U.3 NVMe; 3.5-inch LFF SAS or SATA drives in the 8LFF model; and E3.S EC1 NVMe drives in the SFF/EDSFF and GPU models. Which interfaces work depends on the drive cage and on whether it is attached directly or to a storage controller.

Is my server a DL345 Gen12 or a DL345 Gen11?

Count the DIMM slots: 24 on the Gen12, 12 on the Gen11. The processor model, in iLO under System Information › Processors, does not settle it alone, because 5th Gen EPYC processors (9xx5, such as EPYC 9555P) run in both; a 4th Gen processor (9xx4, such as EPYC 9354P) means a Gen11, and a 7 with a last digit of 2 or 3 (EPYC 7313P) a DL345 Gen10 Plus. The Gen12 takes DDR5-6400 kits only and M-CRPS power supplies; the Gen11 takes DDR5-4800 or DDR5-6400 kits by processor generation, and Flex Slot power supplies. Every Gen12 memory kit is also listed for a Gen11 with a 5th Gen processor, but HPE does not support the Gen11's DDR5-4800 kits in the Gen12.

Some parts on this list have Gen11 or another server in their name. Do they fit the DL345 Gen12?

Yes. HPE lists some DL345 Gen12 parts under another server's name, such as the DL3X5 Gen11 2U Standard Heat Sink Kit (P58458-B21), the DL3X5 Gen11 2U Performance Fan Kit (P58465-B21), the MR416i-p Gen11 controller (P47777-B21) and the DL340 Gen12 Front GPU Primary Front OCP Enablement Kit (P77277-B21). Go by the part number, not the server in the name.
