HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen12 Networking Adapters

HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen12 Networking Adapters

Genuine HPE network adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL345 Gen12, new and refurbished. This server has no embedded network ports — only the dedicated 1Gb iLO port — so every build starts with an adapter, and the platform gives it two rear OCP 3.0 slots, two optional front OCP 3.0 slots and up to six PCIe 5.0 x16 slots to choose from.

DL345 Gen12 Networking Specifications

  • Embedded ports: none; a choice of OCP 3.0 or PCIe stand-up adapters, plus one dedicated 1Gb iLO management port at the rear
  • Rear OCP 3.0: slot A is standard at PCIe 5.0 x16; slot B is optional at x8 or x16 and is not hardwired to the processor, so a device in it needs one or two OCP Slot B enablement kits depending on bandwidth
  • Front OCP 3.0: primary and secondary x16 slots in Box 2 of the SFF/EDSFF and GPU chassis, added with the front OCP enablement kits; only the primary and the two rear slots carry shared-NIC (NCSI) management traffic
  • PCIe: up to six PCIe 5.0 x16 full-height slots via the slot 3, slot 1/2 and slot 4/5 riser kits
  • Ethernet: Broadcom BCM5719 1Gb 4-port BASE-T, BCM57416 10Gb BASE-T and BCM57412 10Gb SFP+; 10/25Gb SFP28 from Broadcom BCM57414 and BCM57504, Intel E810-XXVDA2 and XXVDA4 and Mellanox MCX631102AS; AMD Solarflare X4522-PLUS 10/25GbE SFP56; 100Gb from Mellanox MCX623106AS, Intel E810-CQDA2 and Broadcom BCM57608; NVIDIA NVMe-oF offload adapters — most in both PCIe stand-up and OCP 3.0 form
  • InfiniBand: NDR200 2-port QSFP112 and NDR 400Gb / NDR200 1-port OSFP adapters on PCIe5, ConnectX-8 XDR adapters on PCIe6, and an XDR multi-host auxiliary card
  • Fibre Channel: HPE SN1610Q 32Gb and SN1700Q 64Gb HBAs in 1- and 2-port, and the SN1620E 32Gb and SN1720E 64Gb SecureHBAs
  • Thermal: the document's thermal matrices confine 100Gb and InfiniBand adapters to specific slots at 25°C ambient in many chassis and processor-wattage combinations, and note that active optical cables need cooler air than direct-attach copper

Not every slot can carry the management NIC. Shared-NIC (NCSI) traffic for iLO is supported only in rear OCP slot A, rear OCP slot B and the front primary OCP slot; the front secondary slot supports Wake on LAN only, and a card in a PCIe riser carries data alone. Put the management-capable adapter in slot A first, and remember that slot B needs one enablement kit for x8 bandwidth and two for x16.

Where does the adapter go in a DL345 Gen12?

Fill OCP first. Slot A costs nothing and carries management traffic; slot B adds a second module for the price of an enablement kit and leaves every riser free. The front slots move network ports to the cold aisle on storage-heavy or GPU builds, but the secondary front slot cannot carry the shared iLO connection, so it is the place for a data-only port.

Choosing the Right DL345 Gen12 Network Adapter

  • Put the management NIC in slot A or B. Only the rear OCP slots and the front primary slot support shared-NIC; a PCIe card or the front secondary slot cannot carry iLO traffic.
  • Size slot B before you buy for it. One enablement kit gives x8, two give x16; a 100Gb module or an OCP storage controller in slot B wants both.
  • Check the thermal matrix for 100Gb and InfiniBand. The document confines these adapters to particular slots at 25°C in many chassis and processor-wattage combinations, and the ConnectX-8 XDR cards are the most restricted, marked not supported across several of them.
  • Copper runs cooler than optics. HPE notes that active optical cables have higher cooling requirements than direct-attach copper and call for a lower ambient temperature.

An OCP storage controller in slot B takes the same enablement kits, so read DL345 Gen12 storage controllers alongside this page. DL345 Gen12 Networking Adapters FAQ

Does the DL345 Gen12 have built-in Ethernet ports?
No. HPE lists no embedded network ports on this server, only a dedicated 1Gb iLO management port. Networking comes from an OCP 3.0 module or a PCIe stand-up adapter, and rear OCP slot A is standard on every chassis for exactly that reason.

How many OCP 3.0 slots does the DL345 Gen12 have?
Up to four: rear slot A (standard, x16), rear slot B (optional, x8 or x16 depending on how many enablement kits are fitted), and a front primary and secondary slot in Box 2 of the SFF/EDSFF and GPU chassis, each added with its own enablement kit.

Can I add 100Gb Ethernet to a DL345 Gen12?
Yes. HPE lists the Mellanox MCX623106AS 2-port QSFP56, Intel E810-CQDA2 2-port QSFP28 and Broadcom BCM57608 2-port QSFP112 in PCIe form, and the E810-CQDA2 and BCM57608 as OCP 3.0 modules. The thermal matrices limit these cards to specific slots at 25 degrees C ambient in many chassis and processor-wattage combinations.

Does the DL345 Gen12 support InfiniBand?
Yes, on PCIe. HPE lists NDR200 2-port QSFP112 and NDR 400Gb and NDR200 1-port OSFP adapters on PCIe5, plus ConnectX-8 XDR adapters on PCIe6 and an XDR auxiliary card. The XDR cards are the most thermally restricted adapters in the document, marked not supported across several chassis and processor-wattage combinations.

Which Fibre Channel HBAs work in the DL345 Gen12?
The HPE SN1610Q 32Gb and SN1700Q 64Gb host bus adapters, each in 1-port and 2-port versions, and the SN1620E 32Gb and SN1720E 64Gb 2-port SecureHBAs. All are PCIe stand-up cards.

What is the front OCP slot for?
Moving network ports to the front of the server on the SFF/EDSFF and GPU chassis. The front primary slot supports shared-NIC management traffic like the rear slots; the front secondary slot, which can only be added after the primary, supports Wake on LAN but not shared-NIC.
