How to choose a DL345 Gen11 network adapter

Rule 1

Decide the OCP 3.0 adapter first

The OCP1 Upgrade Cable Kit P56658-B21 gives OCP slot 21 PCIe x16 bandwidth; it is required with the OCP adapters P26269-B21 and P22767-B21 and the OCP InfiniBand adapters P31323-B21 and P31348-B21.

Rule 2

Match the cabling to the switch

DAC cables or fiber transceivers and cables are bought separately.

HPE: “Direct Attach Cable (DAC) for copper environments or fiber transceivers and cables for fiber- optic environments must be purchased separately.” (page 47)

Check the cooling

100/200GbE and InfiniBand adapters need the Performance Fan kit; networking options are subject to HPE's recommended ambient temperature.

Rule 4

Mind the slot rules

The GPU CTO server's front slots 9, 11, 14 and 16 (PCIe 5.0 x16, full-height, full-length) do not support external cabling.

How many network adapters can a DL345 Gen11 take?

The DL345 Gen11 takes network adapters in its two OCP 3.0 slots and in up to six PCIe 5.0 slots on two risers. The OCP1 Upgrade Cable Kit P56658-B21 gives OCP slot 21 PCIe x16 bandwidth; it is required with the OCP adapters P26269-B21 and P22767-B21 and the OCP InfiniBand adapters P31323-B21 and P31348-B21.

Does the DL345 Gen11 have network ports built in?

No embedded network ports; networking comes from an OCP 3.0 or stand-up adapter. BTO models come with a primary networking card pre-selected; CTO servers take an OCP 3.0 or a select stand-up adapter as primary networking, with further stand-up adapters optional; Network Choice models have no embedded LOM.

Are cables or transceivers included?

DAC cables or fiber transceivers and cables are bought separately. HPE: “Direct Attach Cable (DAC) for copper environments or fiber transceivers and cables for fiber- optic environments must be purchased separately.” (page 47).

What does “Listed in QuickSpecs version 42” mean?
