DL360e Gen8 at a glance

Processors

One or two Intel Xeon E5-2400 or E5-2400 v2 processors of the same model; a v2 model number ends in v2. The list carries processor kits for both versions, so match the second processor to the first. HPE supports an upgrade from E5-2400 to v2, with requirements and limitations set out in a separate HP customer advisory.

A 1P model ships with 4 fans, not redundant (5 with a redundant fan), and a 2P model with 8; the second processor kit includes 4 more fans. DL360e Gen8 Processors

Memory

12 DIMM slots, 6 per processor on 3 channels; DIMMs 7 to 12 need the second processor. HPE lists low-voltage DDR3-1600 kits for E5-2400 v2 processors, DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1333 kits for E5-2400, and the 32GB LRDIMM for both.

Up to 384GB with 32GB LRDIMMs in all 12 slots, at 1333MHz; 192GB with 16GB RDIMMs; 96GB with 8GB UDIMMs. UDIMMs, RDIMMs and LRDIMMs do not mix. DL360e Gen8 Memory

Drives

8 SFF bays in the 8 SFF model or 4 LFF bays in the 4 LFF model, each with an optical drive bay; HPE does not support drive cage changes.

The standard B120i runs up to 6 SATA drives, and more than 4 need the 2-port SATA Cable Kit (675856-B21). SAS drives, or more than 6, need a Smart Array controller or the SAS riser with the B320i (up to 8 SAS or SATA drives), which HPE fits only at the factory. DL360e Gen8 Drives

Storage controllers

Embedded B120i: SATA, up to 6 drives, RAID 0, 1 and 1+0. The B320i needs the SAS license key (BC393A) for SAS mode; HPE's B320i models include it. RAID 5 on the B320i needs the 512MB cache (631922-B21).

The P222 and H222 fit the 4 LFF model only, and the P822, H220 and P430 the 8 SFF model only; the P430 needs the Internal SAS P430/830 Cable Kit (725598-B21). The P222, P420, P822, H222 and H220 need the 1U Gen8 Smart Array Cable Kit (672242-B21), except a P420 in slot 1 of an 8 SFF model. DL360e Gen8 Storage Controllers

Before you order processors or memory, check the processor model number. An E5-24xx model number means a DL360e Gen8. E5-26xx with no version or v2 means a DL360p Gen8, whose processors are a different family, and E5-26xx v3 or v4 a DL360 Gen9; HPE names each processor kit for its server. On the DL360e Gen8, a model number ending in v2 (E5-2440 v2) takes the low-voltage DDR3-1600 kits HPE lists for v2; one without a version (E5-2440) takes the DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1333 kits HPE lists for E5-2400. DL360e Gen8 parts questions

How much memory does the DL360e Gen8 support?

Up to 384GB with two processors and 32GB LRDIMMs in all 12 slots, at 1333MHz. With registered DIMMs the maximum is 192GB (16GB in every slot), and with unbuffered DIMMs 96GB (8GB in every slot). A single processor can use only its 6 slots. UDIMMs, RDIMMs and LRDIMMs do not mix.

Which drives fit the DL360e Gen8?

Hot plug SFF drives in the 8 SFF model and hot plug LFF drives in the 4 LFF model, as hard drives or SSDs. HP names the SFF drives SC and the LFF drives SC, SC Converter, SCC or LPC. SATA drives run on the standard B120i; SAS drives need the B320i or a Smart Array controller. The B120i runs up to 6 SATA drives, and more than 4 need the 2-port SATA Cable Kit (675856-B21).

How do I tell whether my DL360e Gen8 has E5-2400 or E5-2400 v2 processors?

Read the processor model in iLO under System Information › Processors. A v2 model number ends in v2 (E5-2440 v2); a first-version one has no suffix (E5-2440). HPE lists low-voltage DDR3-1600 kits for v2, DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1333 kits for E5-2400, and the 32GB LRDIMM for both. Two processors must be the same model; the list carries processor kits for both versions.

Is my server a DL360e Gen8, a DL360p Gen8 or a DL360 Gen9?

Check the processor model number. The DL360e Gen8 runs Xeon E5-2400 processors with no version or v2 (E5-24xx, such as E5-2440 v2), with DDR3 memory in 12 slots. The DL360p Gen8 runs E5-2600 processors with no version or v2 (E5-26xx, such as E5-2650 v2), with DDR3 memory in 24 slots. The DL360 Gen9 runs E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors (such as E5-2650 v4), with DDR4 memory in 24 slots. Every memory kit on the DL360e Gen8 list is also on the DL360p Gen8 list, which adds DDR3-1866 kits, so a memory kit alone does not tell the two apart. Their processor kits differ, and the DL360 Gen9 takes DDR4 where the two Gen8 servers take DDR3, so buy processors and memory from the page for your server.

These artifacts can include passwords, certificates and encryption keys. Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption (BitLocker) is a data protection feature available in Windows Server 2008. BitLocker leverages the enhanced security capabilities of a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 1.2. The TPM works with BitLocker to help protect user data and to ensure that a server running Windows Server 2008 has not been tampered with while the system was offline.
