DL365 Gen10 Plus at a glance

Processors

One or two AMD EPYC 7003 Series processors (model numbers 7xx3); the list also carries 2nd Generation 7xx2 kits.

Processors ship without a heat sink or fan kit: up to 155W the High Performance Heat Sink Kit with the Standard Fan Kit (the Base Standard Fan Kit with one processor); above 155W the High Performance Fan Kit; the 280W and X models take the Max Performance Heat Sink Kit.

The 7473X, 7573X and 7773X do not work with the 2SFF drive cage and are limited to a 23°C ambient. With 256GB DIMMs these X models also rule out the NS204i-p boot device. HPE supports the 7373X only as a private offering, with specific ambient temperature requirements. DL365 Gen10 Plus Processors

Memory

32 DIMM slots, 16 per processor on 8 channels, 2 per channel; with one processor only 16 are available. DDR4-3200 kits only: RDIMMs from 8GB to 64GB, and 128GB and 256GB LRDIMMs from earlier editions. Up to 8TB with 256GB LRDIMMs in all 32 slots and two processors, or 2TB with 64GB RDIMMs. x4 and x8 kits do not mix; empty slots take the DIMM blank kit.

256GB LRDIMMs run 2933 MT/s at two per channel, are recommended for a 23°C (8SFF) or 25°C (10SFF) ambient, and rule out the M.2 SSD enablement kit, the NS204i-r riser and cards of 100Gb or more. DL365 Gen10 Plus Memory

Drives

The 8 SFF chassis takes up to 10 SFF drives: 8 in the front cage and 2 with a 2SFF backplane kit, which needs the 8SFF cage and cannot be combined with the optical drive or the EPYC 7473X, 7573X and 7773X; there are no rear drive cages.

Up to 10 NVMe SSDs. NVMe in the front eight bays needs an 8SFF x4 NVMe backplane, U.3 tri-mode or U.2, which HPE's NVMe Direct FIO bundle supplies; the 8SFF backplane on this list is SAS/SATA. The 2SFF U.3 and U.2 premium backplanes need the High Performance Fan Kit and do not mix.

The NS204i-p boot device fits only slot 1 of the primary riser; the NS204i-r riser replaces the primary riser and takes two M.2 NVMe SSDs. DL365 Gen10 Plus Drives

Storage controllers

Embedded SR100i software RAID for up to 8 SFF SATA drives or 2 U.3 NVMe SSDs, UEFI mode and Microsoft Windows Server only.

Smart Array E208, P408 and P816i-a; tri-mode MR216i, MR416i, SR416i-a and SR932i-p, which HPE says Rome processors cannot use. The Performance RAID controllers need the Smart Storage Battery. DL365 Gen10 Plus Storage Controllers

Networking

No embedded networking: networking comes from an OCP 3.0 or stand-up adapter. One OCP 3.0 slot, for SFF OCP adapters below 35W; adapters up to 200Gb; a dedicated 1Gb iLO port.

Cards of 100Gb or more need the High Performance Fan Kit; 100/200Gb InfiniBand cards also need an ambient under 25°C, and the 100/200GbE adapters are limited to 23°C or 25°C by configuration. DL365 Gen10 Plus Networking Adapters

Expansion

Two PCIe 4.0 slots on the primary riser, up to three with two processors. The secondary riser (slot 3) needs the second processor; the Full Height Riser Kit blocks slot 2, so three slots need the Low Profile Riser Kit. Riser cards

Cooling

The chassis ships without fans: 5 with one processor, 7 with two. The High Performance Fan Kit is required with processors above 155W, NVMe or SAS4 drives, the 2SFF premium backplanes, cards of 100Gb or more, 100/200Gb InfiniBand cards, the PCIe SATA/NVMe and riser NVMe adapters, the NVMe M.2 SSDs for the NS204i-r riser and the Smart Array to NVMe Adapter Kit. Power

Flex Slot hot-plug power supplies from 500W to 1600W, including -48VDC and 277VAC/380VDC models; HPE also lists the 1800W-2200W supply but caps Gen10 Plus output at 1600W.

The 1000W, 1600W and 2200W supplies need high line voltage (200VAC to 240VAC), and the 1600W -48VDC supply takes the 1600W -48VDC Power Cable Lug Kit. HPE does not support mixing two different power supplies. DL365 Gen10 Plus Power Supplies

Before you order memory or processors, check that the server is a Gen10 Plus. The last digit of the AMD EPYC model number tells you: a 3 (EPYC 7313, 7443, 7763), or a 2 on the 2nd Generation kits this list also carries (EPYC 7702), means a DL365 Gen10 Plus, which takes DDR4-3200 kits only. How much memory does the DL365 Gen10 Plus support?

Up to 8TB with two processors: 256GB DDR4-3200 LRDIMMs in all 32 slots, at 2933 MT/s with two DIMMs per channel. With one processor only 16 slots are available, up to 4TB. With 64GB registered DIMMs the maximum is 2TB. x4 and x8 kits do not mix, and empty slots take the DIMM blank kit (P07818-B21). HPE recommends a 23°C ambient for 256GB LRDIMMs with the 8SFF configuration and 25°C with 10SFF, and they rule out the M.2 SSD enablement kit, the NS204i-r riser and cards of 100Gb or more.

Which drives fit the DL365 Gen10 Plus?

Up to ten 2.5-inch SFF drives on HPE's Basic Carrier (BC) in SAS, SATA or NVMe (U.3 and U.2); SATA M.2 SSDs on the M.2 enablement kit (878783-B21); and NVMe M.2 SSDs only on the NS204i-r riser. NVMe in the eight front bays needs an 8SFF x4 NVMe backplane; the 8SFF backplane on this list is SAS/SATA. The 2SFF U.3 and U.2 premium backplanes do not mix, and with SR100i software RAID, NVMe drives work only in the 2SFF U.3 backplane.

How do I tell which EPYC processor my DL365 Gen10 Plus has?

Read the processor model in iLO under System Information › Processors. A last digit of 3 (EPYC 7313, 7443, 7763) is a 7003 Series processor, the generation HPE's QuickSpecs list. A last digit of 2 (EPYC 7702, kit P39373-B21) is a 2nd Generation processor from the list's earlier-edition kits. HPE's notes add: “Rome processors can’t support tri-mode controllers” and “Rome processors can’t support 3200 MT/s at 2 DIMM per channel”.

Is my server a DL365 Gen10 Plus or a DL365 Gen11?

Check the processor model number. A last digit of 3 or 2 (7xx3 or 7xx2, such as EPYC 7313) means a DL365 Gen10 Plus, with DDR4-3200 memory in 32 slots. A 9 with a last digit of 4 or 5 (9xx4 or 9xx5, such as EPYC 9354 or 9555) means a DL365 Gen11, with DDR5 memory in 24 slots. Memory kits and processors differ between them, so buy those from the page for your generation.
