HPE ProLiant DL340 Gen12 Networking Adapters
Genuine HPE network adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL340 Gen12, new and refurbished. This server ships with no network controller at all — HPE's own words are "no embedded networking" — so every build starts with an adapter, and the choice is between the OCP 3.0 slots built into the chassis and PCIe stand-up cards in the riser slots.

This server has no network ports until you add an adapter. HPE fits no embedded networking to the DL340 Gen12; the only fixed port is the 1GbE iLO 7 management port. Start with the embedded rear OCP A slot, which costs no riser and no cable kit, and remember that HPE's configuration table lists the OCP 3.0 slot as not supported on the LFF chassis and that the 100Gb and faster adapters carry a note requiring the high-performance fan kit.

Start with OCP A, the one position that costs no riser and no cable kit. Reach for the riser slots when you need 200Gb or 400Gb, which are listed only as PCIe cards, or when the OCP slots are already taken by an OCP storage controller.
Choosing the Right DL340 Gen12 Network Adapter
- Know your chassis. On the LFF chassis HPE lists the OCP 3.0 slot as not supported, so plan on a riser and a stand-up card there.
- Fans come with the fast cards. HPE's note against the 100/200/400Gb PCIe adapters and the 100Gb OCP adapters calls for the high-performance fan kit — six fans, no mixing with standard fans.
- Slot B and the rear captive riser compete. On the SFF chassis the rear captive riser cannot be selected if the OCP B cable kit is selected, so decide which the server gets.
- Front OCP is a kit, not a slot. The Primary and Secondary Front OCP Enablement Kits must be ordered together, they need the Multipurpose Drive Cage Kit, and on the GPU chassis they are not available with more than one 4EDSFF cage.

DL340 Gen12 Networking Adapters FAQ
Does the DL340 Gen12 have onboard network ports?
No. HPE fits no default network controller and states that a choice of OCP or stand-up card is required. The only fixed network port is the 1GbE dedicated iLO 7 management port.
How many OCP 3.0 slots does the DL340 Gen12 have?
Up to four: rear OCP A is embedded (PCIe 5.0 x16), rear OCP B is optional and needs an OCP Slot B cable kit, and two front OCP 3.0 slots are optional with the front OCP enablement kits. HPE lists the OCP slot as not supported on the LFF chassis.
What is the fastest network adapter for the DL340 Gen12?
The HPE InfiniBand NDR/Ethernet 400Gb 1-port OSFP PCIe5 x16 adapter, a stand-up PCIe card. The HPE Slingshot SA210S 200Gb NIC and the InfiniBand NDR200/Ethernet 200Gb adapter are the next step down; 100Gb is available in both PCIe and OCP 3.0 forms.
Do the 100Gb and faster adapters need anything else?
Fans. HPE notes the high-performance fan kit (P58465-B21) against the 100/200/400Gb PCIe adapters and the 100Gb OCP adapters. The server takes six fans and standard and performance fans cannot be mixed.
Can I put a network adapter in the DL340 Gen12 LFF chassis?
Yes, as a PCIe stand-up card in a riser slot. HPE's configuration table lists the OCP 3.0 slot as not supported on the LFF CTO server, so the OCP3 adapters are for the SFF and Front GPU chassis.
Are the OCP3 and PCIe versions of an adapter the same card?
Same controller, different form factor. The Broadcom BCM5719, BCM57412, BCM57416, BCM57414 and BCM57504 and the Intel E810-XXVDA2, XXVDA4 and CQDA2 are each listed as a PCIe adapter and as an OCP3 adapter under different part numbers.
