HPE ProLiant DL340 Gen12 Power Supplies

HPE ProLiant DL340 Gen12 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE power supplies for the HPE ProLiant DL340 Gen12, new and refurbished. The server uses HPE's M-CRPS (Modular Common Redundant Power Supply) family in two hot-plug bays — a primary and an optional second — and the range runs from an 800W Platinum unit to a 3200W Titanium unit, with 1300W and 2200W -48VDC options.

DL340 Gen12 Power Supply Specifications

  • Family: hot-plug M-CRPS, two bays per server, the second bay optional for redundancy; HPE does not allow mixing power supplies
  • AC kits listed: HPE 800W M-CRPS Platinum (P73190-B21), 1000W Titanium (P67240-B21), 1500W Titanium (P67244-B21), 2400W Titanium (P67252-B21) and 3200W Titanium (P67248-B21)
  • DC kits listed: HPE 1300W M-CRPS -48VDC (P82412-B21) with the 3.5m 1000-1300W hardwire cord or power lug kit, and 2200W -48VDC (P73210-B21) with the 3.5m 2000-2200W cord or lug kit
  • Efficiency: HPE rates the 1000W, 1500W, 2400W and 3200W Titanium units at 96%, meeting the EU ErP Lot 9 single-output requirement
  • Input: 100 to 120 VAC low-line, 200 to 240 VAC high-line, and 240 VDC for China
  • Rated output at low line: the 3200W unit delivers 1600W at 100-127 VAC, the 2400W unit 1200W, the 1500W unit 1000W at 100 VAC and 1100W at 110-120 VAC, and the 1000W unit 800W at 100-120 VAC
  • Cooling: six system fans are required, in the standard (P58464-B21) or performance (P58465-B21) fan kit, one fan per kit and never mixed

Size the power supply for your line voltage, not the nameplate. HPE rates the 3200W M-CRPS unit at 1600W and the 2400W unit at 1200W on a 100-127 VAC circuit, and the 1500W unit at 1000W at 100 VAC; only on 200-240 VAC do they deliver their full output. Redundancy means two of the same kit, because mixing power supplies is not allowed, and every configuration also needs six fans of one type.

Which DL340 Gen12 power supply is enough?

The nameplate is a high-line number. On a 100-127 VAC circuit the 3200W and 2400W units deliver half their rating and the 1500W unit two thirds of it, so a GPU chassis carrying L40S accelerators and a 350W processor on 120V power is a very different sizing exercise from the same server on 208V. HPE recommends running the HPE Power Advisor against the actual configuration before choosing.

Choosing the Right DL340 Gen12 Power Supply

  • Buy two of the same kit for redundancy. The second M-CRPS bay is optional, and mixing power supplies is not allowed, so redundancy means a matched pair.
  • Size for the line voltage you actually have. The low-line figures above are HPE's rated steady-state output; a server that fits in 1500W at 208V may need the 2400W unit at 120V.
  • DC needs the cord or the lug kit. The 1300W -48VDC unit pairs with P79842-B21 or P79845-B21, the 2200W unit with P73874-B21 or P79839-B21, and HPE specifies one cable kit or lug kit per power supply.
  • Do not forget the fans. Performance fans are required for the GPU chassis, NEBS configurations, nine or more DIMMs, 256GB DIMMs and the 100Gb and faster adapters — and the fan kit is one fan, six required.
  • Platinum is the entry point only. The 800W unit is the one Platinum-rated kit; every Titanium unit is 96% efficient, which matters at the wall on a server that can draw 3200W.

DL340 Gen12 Power Supplies FAQ

Which power supplies does the DL340 Gen12 use?
Hot-plug HPE M-CRPS kits: 800W Platinum, 1000W, 1500W, 2400W and 3200W Titanium, and 1300W and 2200W -48VDC. The server has two M-CRPS bays, the second optional for redundancy.

Can I mix different power supplies in a DL340 Gen12?
No. HPE states that mixing of power supplies is not allowed, so a redundant pair must be two of the same kit.

Why does the 3200W power supply only give 1600W on a 120V circuit?
Because HPE rates it at 1600W steady-state at 100-127 VAC and 3200W at 200-240 VAC. The 2400W unit is likewise 1200W at low line, and the 1500W unit is 1000W at 100 VAC and 1100W at 110-120 VAC. Size against the voltage the rack actually provides.

How efficient are the DL340 Gen12 power supplies?
HPE rates the 1000W, 1500W, 2400W and 3200W M-CRPS Titanium units at 96%, which HPE cites as meeting the EU ErP Lot 9 single-output requirement. The 800W unit is Platinum-rated.

What do I need for the -48VDC power supplies?
A cord or a lug kit per power supply. The 1300W -48VDC unit uses the HPE Hardwire -48VDC 3.5m 1000-1300W Power Cord (P79842-B21) or the 1000-1300W Power Lug Kit (P79845-B21); the 2200W unit uses the 2000-2200W cord (P73874-B21) or lug kit (P79839-B21).

How many fans does the DL340 Gen12 need, and are they included?
Six, and the fan kit is one fan, so a full set is six kits. Choose the standard kit (P58464-B21) or the performance kit (P58465-B21); HPE requires performance fans for the GPU chassis, NEBS builds, nine or more DIMMs, 256GB DIMMs and the 100Gb and faster network adapters, and does not allow the two types to be mixed.
