DL20 Gen10 at a glance

Processors

One processor: Intel Xeon E-2200 (E-2224 to E-2286G), Core i3-9100 or Pentium G5420. Memory runs at 2666 MT/s with a Xeon E-2200 and 2400 MT/s with the Core i3 or Pentium. VMware is supported only with the Xeon E processors.

Memory

4 DIMM slots on 2 channels. DDR4 unbuffered DIMMs (UDIMMs) only, 8GB or 16GB; no RDIMMs or LRDIMMs. Up to 64GB with 16GB in all four slots. HPE does not qualify memory from earlier server generations in this server. This page's list has no memory kits.

Drives

Up to 6 SFF drives in the 4SFF model: 4, plus 2 with the 2SFF HDD Enablement Kit (P06671-B21). 2 LFF drives in a 2LFF model, hot-plug or non-hot-plug.

An NVMe M.2 SSD needs the M.2/Dedicated iLO and Serial Port Kit (P06687-B21), whose module has one M.2 slot; with the NVMe x4 M.2 480GB SSD, HPE gives an ambient temperature under 30°C. The Universal SATA M.2 kit (878783-B21) holds up to two identical SATA M.2 SSDs in a PCIe slot and needs the M.2 SATA/LFF AROC Cable Kit (P06683-B21). DL20 Gen10 Drives

Storage controllers

Embedded S100i software RAID, SATA only: off until enabled (784308-B21), UEFI mode only and Windows only; 12 of its 14 ports serve drives.

Smart Array E208i-a and P408i-a modular controllers, and the E208e-p and P408e-p for external storage. The P408i-a and P408e-p need the 12W Smart Storage Battery (782961-B21).

In a 2LFF model, an E208i-a or P408i-a needs the M.2 SATA/LFF AROC Cable Kit (P06683-B21) to reach the drives. In the 4SFF model it uses the cable that ships with the server, and the 2SFF kit (P06671-B21) includes the cable for the two extra bays. DL20 Gen10 Storage Controllers

Networking

Two embedded 1GbE ports; with a Xeon E-2200, 9th Gen Core i3 or Pentium G processor they are the HPE 361i (Intel i350).

PCIe adapters and FlexibleLOM adapters, which need the FlexibleLOM riser kit (P06667-B21); with default iLO settings, port 1 of a FlexibleLOM adapter becomes the shared iLO port. A dedicated iLO port comes with the M.2/Dedicated iLO and Serial Port Kit.

No SR-IOV. A 4-port RJ45 PCIe card fits only slot 2, and two or more 817753-B21 adapters with an 8GB DIMM need 16GB of memory or more. DL20 Gen10 Networking Adapters

Expansion

Two PCIe 3.0 slots on the primary riser: slot 1 x8 low profile and slot 2 x8 on an x16 connector, full height, half length. The FlexibleLOM riser puts a FlexibleLOM slot in place of slot 1.

Power

One 290W non-redundant power supply, factory-installed only, or one or two Flex Slot hot-plug supplies: 500W, or 800W -48VDC. HPE does not allow mixing two different power supplies.

HPE lists Smart Carrier (SC) SFF drives for the DL20 Gen10 and Basic Carrier (BC) SFF drives for the DL20 Gen11, under different part numbers; the carrier is in the drive's name (SFF SC). Type the part number from the drive's label into the check on this page before you order. LFF Low Profile (LP) drives such as 861686-B21 are listed for both. Not sure it is a Gen10? How much memory does the DL20 Gen10 support?

Up to 64GB: 16GB DDR4-2666 unbuffered DIMMs (UDIMMs) in all four slots. Only UDIMMs are supported, not RDIMMs or LRDIMMs. HPE lists 8GB and 16GB kits for this server. Memory runs at 2666 MT/s with a Xeon E-2200 processor and 2400 MT/s with the Core i3-9100 or Pentium G5420.

Which drives fit the DL20 Gen10?

2.5-inch SFF drives on the Smart Carrier (SC) in the 4SFF model, SAS or SATA; 3.5-inch LFF hard drives on the Low Profile (LP) carrier and LFF SSDs on the LPC carrier in the 2LFF hot-plug model; and LFF RW SATA drives, HPE's non-hot-plug drives, in the 2LFF non-hot-plug model. SATA and NVMe M.2 SSDs fit with their kits. SAS drives need a Smart Array controller, because the embedded S100i is SATA only.

How do I tell which processor my DL20 Gen10 has?

Read the processor model in iLO under System Information › Processors. Xeon E-2200 models are numbered E-22xx (such as E-2224 or E-2236); the Core i3 is the i3-9100 and the Pentium the G5420. It decides the memory speed: 2666 MT/s with a Xeon E-2200, 2400 MT/s with the Core i3 or Pentium. VMware is supported only with the Xeon E processors.

Is my server a DL20 Gen10 or a DL20 Gen11?

Check the processor model number and the memory. The Gen10 runs a Xeon E-2200 (E-22xx, such as E-2224), Core i3-9100 or Pentium G5420 processor with DDR4 UDIMMs. The Gen11 runs a Xeon 6300 (63xxP, such as 6315P), Xeon E-2400 (E-24xx, such as E-2434) or Pentium G7400 with DDR5 UDIMMs. Both have 4 DIMM slots, so the slot count does not tell them apart. SFF drives differ too: Smart Carrier (SC) for the Gen10, Basic Carrier (BC) for the Gen11. Memory, processors and SFF drives differ between them, so check a part number against the list for your generation before you order.
