HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 Networking Adapters
Genuine HPE Ethernet adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10, new and refurbished. This server has no Ethernet ports on the system board — networking arrives either on a FlexibleLOM card in its dedicated slot or on a standard PCIe adapter — so the first thing to settle is which of the two you are replacing.
DL580 Gen10 Networking Specifications
- Embedded networking: none. The chassis has a FlexibleLOM slot for the primary adapter, plus a separate dedicated iLO 5 connector
- FlexibleLOM options: 1Gb 4-port FLR-T, 10Gb 2-port FLR-T and FLR-SFP+, and 10/25Gb 2-port FLR-SFP28, including converged adapters
- PCIe stand-up options: 1Gb 2-port and 4-port BASE-T, 10Gb 2-port BASE-T and SFP+, 10/25Gb SFP28, 4x25Gb QSFP28 and 100Gb QSFP28
- InfiniBand and Omni-Path: FDR and EDR QSFP28 adapters, HDR100 and HDR QSFP56 cards, and Intel Omni-Path OP101 on x8 or x16 PCIe 3.0
- Slots: up to 16 PCIe 3.0 slots with four processors and all three risers, and slot availability tracks which processors are installed
- Requirements and limits: at least 2GB of server memory per 10GbE adapter, cables and transceivers bought separately, and no HDR InfiniBand above 24 SFF bays when the inlet exceeds 25°C
This server has no Ethernet ports of its own. Every data port comes from a card — a FlexibleLOM adapter in the one dedicated slot, or a standard PCIe adapter — and only the dedicated iLO 5 management connector is fitted by default. A part number carrying FLR fits the FlexibleLOM slot and nothing else.

The suffix is the whole answer. FLR means the card seats in the FlexibleLOM slot and nowhere else, and there is one such slot per server; every other adapter takes a PCIe slot. That is worth checking on a four-socket chassis, because the riser slots are wired to particular processors, and a two-processor machine has fewer usable slots than sixteen.
Choosing the Right DL580 Gen10 Network Adapter
- Read the suffix before the speed. An FLR card and a stand-up card of the same speed are not substitutes for each other.
- Count live slots, not total slots. Sixteen assumes four processors and all three risers; slots wired to an empty socket are unavailable.
- Budget 2GB of memory per 10GbE adapter. HPE documents that as a minimum for each 10 Gigabit card fitted.
- Cables and transceivers are separate. SFP28 and QSFP28 cards ship bare, needing direct attach copper or transceivers and fibre.
- Check bays and inlet temperature before an HDR InfiniBand card. Those are not supported above 24 SFF bays when the inlet runs warmer than 25°C.

How many network ports does a DL580 Gen10 have as standard?
None on the system board. Every Ethernet port on this server comes from a card - a FlexibleLOM adapter in the dedicated slot, or a PCIe adapter. The dedicated iLO 5 management connector is separate from that.
What is a FlexibleLOM adapter?
A card that seats in the server's dedicated FlexibleLOM slot rather than a PCIe slot, so it provides the primary network ports without spending an expansion slot. Its part number carries FLR, and there is one such slot per server.
Does the DL580 Gen10 support 25 Gigabit Ethernet?
Yes, both ways. The 10/25Gb 2-port FLR-SFP28 adapters fit the FlexibleLOM slot, and 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 and 4x25Gb QSFP28 cards fit a PCIe slot.
Do 10GbE adapters need extra memory?
HPE documents a minimum of two gigabytes of server memory for each 10 Gigabit adapter installed, so several cards assume headroom in the memory configuration.
Are cables or transceivers included with SFP28 adapters?
No. Direct attach copper cables for short runs, and transceivers plus fibre for longer ones, are purchased separately from the adapter.
Can I fit an InfiniBand card in a DL580 Gen10?
Yes - FDR, EDR and HDR adapters and Intel Omni-Path cards are all specified for this server. The HDR100 and HDR cards carry a limit: they are not supported on configurations with more than 24 SFF bays when the system inlet is above 25 degrees Celsius.
