HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE Flex Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10, new and refurbished. Sizing a four-socket 2U server is not the same job as sizing a two-socket one: HPE's rule for this chassis is two 1600W supplies or four 800W supplies, and a four-supply build also needs the 4x Power Supply Enablement Kit.

DL560 Gen10 Power Supply Specifications

  • Format: HPE Flexible Slot (Flex Slot) hot-plug supplies, tool-less, sharing one electrical and physical design across ProLiant Gen10 servers
  • Bays: four, taking either a pair of 1600W units or a full set of four 800W units
  • 1600W Platinum: 94% efficiency, 200VAC to 240VAC high line only, with a C-14 inlet that supports HPE Power Discovery Services
  • 800W Titanium: 96% efficiency, also high line only at 200VAC to 240VAC
  • 800W Platinum: 94% efficiency, and the one unit here that accepts low line, at 100VAC to 127VAC as well as 200VAC to 240VAC
  • 800W Universal and −48VDC: 94% efficiency; the Universal takes 200VAC to 277VAC or 380VDC, and the −48VDC unit takes −40VDC to −72VDC for DC-fed racks
  • Mixing: not supported — all supplies in one server must match, and each option kit ships with a PDU IEC cable

Two 1600W supplies or four 800W ones — never two 800W. HPE specifies four units when the 800W supply is chosen for this chassis, and a four-supply build needs the 4x Power Supply Enablement Kit and gives up the tertiary riser. Both the 1600W Platinum and the 800W Titanium are high line only, 200VAC to 240VAC.

Two supplies or four?

ConfigurationInputEfficiencyWhat it costs you
2 × 1600W Platinum200–240VAC only94%Nothing — leaves room for the tertiary riser
4 × 800W Titanium200–240VAC only96%The enablement kit, and the tertiary riser slots
4 × 800W Platinum100–127 or 200–240VAC94%The enablement kit, and the tertiary riser slots

The two choices are not interchangeable, and the trade is physical as much as electrical: four supplies fill the space the tertiary riser needs, so a server that wants PCIe slots 7 and 8 has to run the 1600W pair. On a fully loaded four-socket machine with 205W processors and 24 drives the high-line requirement is the other constraint worth checking early, because both the 1600W Platinum and the 800W Titanium refuse a 120V feed.

Choosing the Right DL560 Gen10 Power Supply

  • Read the label on the installed unit first. Mixing supplies is not supported, so the existing unit is the specification for any replacement or addition.
  • Do not order two 800W units for this chassis. HPE specifies four when the 800W supply is chosen, which is the single most common mis-order on a four-socket 2U server.
  • Check the rack feed before the wattage. The 1600W Platinum and the 800W Titanium are high line only; only the 800W Platinum accepts a 100VAC to 127VAC supply.
  • Persistent memory rules out the DC unit. HPE does not support Intel Optane persistent memory kits alongside the 800W −48VDC supply.
  • Size to the configuration, not the chassis. Processor wattage, drive count and any GPU are what move the number, and HPE publishes a Power Advisor for working it out.

DL560 Gen10 Power Supplies FAQ

How many power supplies does a DL560 Gen10 need?
Either two 1600W supplies or four 800W supplies. HPE specifies four units when the 800W supply is chosen for this chassis, and a four-supply build also needs the 4x Power Supply Enablement Kit.

Can I mix power supplies in a DL560 Gen10?
No. HPE states that all power supplies in a server should match, and mixing them is not supported. That covers wattage and efficiency grade alike.

Does the 1600W power supply work on 120V?
No. The 1600W Flex Slot Platinum supports high line voltage only, 200VAC to 240VAC. The 800W Titanium is also high line only; the 800W Platinum is the unit that accepts 100VAC to 127VAC.

What is the difference between Platinum and Titanium here?
Efficiency and input range. The Platinum units are rated up to 94% and the 800W Titanium up to 96%, but the Titanium accepts high line voltage only where the 800W Platinum also takes low line.

Will four power supplies fit alongside the tertiary riser?
No. HPE states there is no space for a tertiary riser when four power supplies are installed, so a four-PSU server gives up PCIe slots 7 and 8.

What is the minus 48VDC power supply for?
Racks fed by DC rectifiers rather than an AC supply, accepting minus 40VDC to minus 72VDC. It cannot be used in a server configured with Intel Optane persistent memory kits.
