The ML30 Gen11 takes network adapters in four PCIe 4.0 slots (slot 1 PCIe 5.0) on the motherboard, of which slots 3 and 4 run from the chipset. How to choose an ML30 Gen11 network adapter
Check the cooling
The Front PCI Fan and Baffle Kit P65106-B21 is required on the 4LFF and 8SFF hot-plug CTO servers, and on the 4LFF non-hot-plug server and Entry models when a PCIe card other than a 1Gb network adapter or the E208e-p is fitted; Performance models include it.
HPE: “Must be selected in 4LFF NHP CTO Server and pre-configured Entry Models if an M.2 SSD or any PCIe card (NIC, Smart Array Controller, graphic card, etc.) is selected except the E208e-p controller and 1Gb network adapters.” (page 31)
Mind the slot rules
When an x8 controller and an x8 PCIe NIC are installed together, HPE recommends the controller in slot 1 and the NIC in slot 2 for best performance.
HPE: “If installing any PCIe card (including controller card and NIC card) that are PCIe x8 electrically, suggest PCIe controller card be installed in Slot 1 and PCIe NIC be installed in Slot 2 for optimal performance results.” (page 8)

The ML30 Gen11 takes network adapters in four PCIe 4.0 slots (slot 1 PCIe 5.0) on the motherboard, of which slots 3 and 4 run from the chipset. Every CTO server has one PCIe 5.0 slot and three PCIe 4.0 slots.
Does the ML30 Gen11 have network ports built in?
Four 1GbE RJ-45 ports embedded on every chassis type, from the embedded Broadcom BCM5719 Ethernet 1Gb 4-port BASE-T Adapter. Every CTO server has the embedded 4-port 1Gb BCM5719 adapter, with a choice of optional stand-up network cards; both pre-configured models list the embedded 1Gb 4-port adapter.
