Start at the FlexibleLOM: it is the one upgrade that costs no expansion slot, and because the embedded 331i keeps its four 1GbE ports whatever you fit, a FlexibleLOM adds ports rather than replacing them. Choosing the Right DL360 Gen9 Network Adapter
- Populate the FlexibleLOM first. Only one can be added, and it leaves all three PCIe slots free for storage controllers and accelerators.
- Match media to your fabric. BASE-T parts run on existing copper; SFP+ and SFP28 parts need direct attach cables or transceivers, bought separately.
- Budget memory per adapter. HPE specifies a minimum of two gigabytes of server memory for each one, which matters on a lightly populated server.
- Mind which slot the card lands in. Slot 2 is a low-profile x8 off processor 1, slot 3 is x16 but needs the second processor, and the full-height kit 867249-B21 takes slot 2 out of use.
- Mixing vendors is fine. The Broadcom, Intel, Emulex, QLogic and Mellanox based adapters listed here are all HPE-qualified.

Does the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 have onboard network ports?
Yes. Both the SFF and LFF chassis carry an embedded HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i adapter, built on a Broadcom BCM5719 and connected over two PCIe lanes. The dedicated 1Gb iLO management port is separate from production networking.
What is a FlexibleLOM and how many can the DL360 Gen9 take?
FlexibleLOM is HPE's replaceable network mezzanine for Gen9 servers: the adapter slides into a dedicated bay instead of a PCIe slot. The QuickSpecs state that only one FlexibleLOM can be added to the server as an upgradeable option.
How fast can the DL360 Gen9 network go?
