HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 Memory
The DL360 Gen9 has 24 DIMM slots, 12 per processor, and takes HPE DDR4 memory. Which kit you need depends on the processor: E5-2600 v4 processors use DDR4-2400 kits; E5-2600 v3 processors use DDR4-2133 kits. The server supports up to 3TB with two v4 processors and 128GB LRDIMMs in every slot.

How processor, population and speed fit together
Each processor has 4 memory channels with 3 slots per channel. The kit rating is the ceiling; the processor model, the DIMM type and how many DIMMs share a channel set the speed you actually get.

HPE: depending on the processor selected, DDR4-2400 memory runs at 1866, 2133 or 2400 MT/s. Lower-tier models in each family are rated below the kit speed. HPE's QuickSpecs give population guidance only (balance the processors, fill channels in the printed order); the picker uses 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12 DIMMs per processor.
Three rules that avoid a return
1 Match the kit to the processor
DDR4-2400 kits are listed for E5-2600 v4 processors and DDR4-2133 kits for v3. HPE does not support mixing 2133 and 2400 DIMMs. If you are adding to memory that is already installed, match the part number on the existing DIMM label.
2 RDIMM or LRDIMM, never both
HPE does not support mixing DIMM types, and 128GB LRDIMMs cannot be mixed with any other size. Keep every DIMM in a bank the same capacity and rank, and populate both processors identically.
3 Fill channels for bandwidth
Four matching DIMMs per processor fill every channel once; eight per processor is the last population that keeps full speed. The third slot in each channel adds capacity: registered DIMMs then run at 1866 MT/s on v4 processors, load-reduced DIMMs at 2400 MT/s.
DL360 Gen9 memory questions
How much memory does the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen9 support?
Up to 3TB with two E5-2600 v4 processors and 128GB DDR4-2400 LRDIMMs in all 24 slots. With registered DIMMs the maximum is 768GB (32GB in every slot); with v3 processors and 64GB LRDIMMs it is 1.5TB. A single processor can use only its 12 slots.
What type of memory does the DL360 Gen9 use?
HPE DDR4 registered and load-reduced DIMMs. E5-2600 v3 processors take the DDR4-2133 kits; E5-2600 v4 processors take the DDR4-2400 kits. Registered DIMMs run from 4GB to 32GB; load-reduced DIMMs from 32GB to 128GB.
Can I use DDR4-2133 memory with a v4 processor?
Buy the family HPE lists for your processor, and never mix 2133 and 2400 DIMMs in one server. If the server already has memory installed, add the same part number.
What speed will the memory run at?
Up to the kit rating with one or two DIMMs per channel, depending on the processor model. With three DIMMs per channel, registered DIMMs run at 1866 MT/s on v4 processors (1600 on v3) and load-reduced DIMMs at 2400 MT/s.
What about the NVDIMM?
The 8GB NVDIMM is supported only on factory-configured servers with E5-2600 v4 processors, up to 16 per server, and cannot be used with LRDIMMs. Check HPE's NVDIMM population rules before adding one to an existing server.
