Processors of 240W or less — the EPYC 9015, 9115, 9135, 9255 and 9335 — run on the standard heat sink and standard fans; the 280W EPYC 9355P and every kit above it need the DL345 Gen12 performance heat sink and six performance fans. Memory speed is not part of this decision: every listed processor rates DDR5 at 6400 MT/s, and the operating clock follows DIMM count, not the processor.

Which DL345 Gen12 processor tier do you need?

The 240W line is where the bill changes. Up to the 32-core EPYC 9335 at 210W the standard heat sink and standard fans do the job; the 280W EPYC 9355P and everything above it need the performance heat sink and six performance fans. Because the memory clock is set by DIMM count rather than by the processor, a cheaper part does not cost you memory bandwidth on this platform — it costs cores and boost clock only.

• Buy the heat sink with the processor. The kits on this page are processor-only; add the standard heat sink for 240W or less, the performance heat sink above 240W.
• Above 240W, budget for six performance fans. The chassis takes six fan kits in every configuration and the type follows the processor wattage, and also follows EDSFF cages, GPUs and large DIMMs.
• Frequency parts for per-core licensing. The F-suffix kits (9175F, 9275F, 9375F, 9475F, 9575F) trade cores for clock, with base frequencies from 3.3GHz to 4.2GHz and boost to 4.8 or 5GHz.
• Wattage shapes the rest of the build. The thermal matrices tie 100Gb and InfiniBand adapter placement and GPU support to processor wattage and ambient temperature; a 500W processor narrows which slots those cards may use.
• Memory speed is not a processor decision here. Every listed processor rates DDR5 at 6400 MT/s; the operating speed is 5200 MT/s at one DIMM per channel and 4000 MT/s at two, whichever processor is fitted.

No. The DL345 Gen12 is a single-socket server with one SP5 socket, and every kit on this page is a single processor. All 12 memory channels and 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes come from that one processor.

192 cores, on the AMD EPYC 9965 at 2.25GHz base and 3.7GHz maximum, 500W. The 160-core EPYC 9845, 144-core EPYC 9825 and 128-core EPYC 9755 and 9745 sit below it.

Does the DL345 Gen12 support liquid cooling?
Only as a factory option. HPE lists a direct liquid cooling cold plate module and quick-disconnect tube set as FIO kits, requires six performance fans with them, and ships a liquid-cooled DL345 Gen12 only as a complete rack. They are not sold as field upgrades.
