HPE ProLiant DL340e Gen12 Networking Adapters
Genuine HPE network adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL340e Gen12, new and refurbished. This server has no embedded networking at all — HPE lists "none standard, choice of OCP or standup card required" — so every build starts with one OCP 3.0 adapter in the embedded OCP A slot or a PCIe card in a riser.
DL340e Gen12 Networking Specifications
- Embedded ports: none for data; a dedicated 1GbE iLO 7 management port and a front USB-C iLO service port only
- OCP 3.0: OCP A, PCIe 5.0 x16, on every configuration; OCP B, also x16, only with a Rich I/O processor, the Rear 6x PCIe Enablement Kit and an OCP SlotB cable kit
- PCIe slots: PCIe 5.0 FHHL — six with the six-slot rear (slots 1 and 2 at x8, 3 to 6 at x16, slot 5 Rich I/O only), four with the EDSFF rear (slots 1, 2, 3 and 6)
- Ethernet listed: Broadcom BCM5719 1Gb BASE-T, BCM57412 10Gb SFP+, BCM57416 10Gb BASE-T, Intel E810-XXVDA2/DA4 and Broadcom BCM57414/57504 10/25Gb SFP28, and Intel E810-CQDA2 100Gb QSFP28, each in OCP3 and PCIe form; Broadcom BCM57608 100Gb QSFP112 (OCP3), Mellanox MCX623106AS-CDAT 100Gb QSFP56 (PCIe) and the HPE Slingshot SA210S 200Gb NIC (PCIe)
- NVMe-oF: NVIDIA 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 NVMe-oF Crypto and 100Gb 2-port NVMe-oF Offload adapters, both PCIe stand-up cards
- InfiniBand: HPE NDR 400Gb and NDR200 200Gb 1-port OSFP PCIe5 x16 adapters (MCX75310AAS)
- Thermal rule: HPE requires the high-performance fan kit (P58465-B21) with the 100Gb adapters and the 200Gb Slingshot NIC
There is no network port on this server until you add one. HPE ships the DL340e Gen12 with no embedded networking; the OCP A slot (PCIe 5.0 x16) is on every configuration and is the place to start. OCP B and PCIe slot 5 appear only with a Single Socket Rich I/O processor and the six-slot rear kit, and the 100Gb adapters need the high-performance fan kit.
OCP 3.0 or a PCIe card for the DL340e Gen12?
| Position | Available when | Link | Best used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| OCP A (OCP 3.0) | Always | PCIe 5.0 x16 | The primary NIC; keeps every riser slot free for controllers |
| OCP B (OCP 3.0) | Rich I/O processor + six-slot rear + OCP SlotB cable kit | PCIe 5.0 x16 (MCIO kit) or x8 (R1S MCIO kit) | A second NIC without spending a slot |
| PCIe slots 3 to 6 | Six-slot rear (slot 5 Rich I/O only); slots 3 and 6 on the EDSFF rear | PCIe 5.0 x16 | 100Gb, 200Gb and InfiniBand cards |
| PCIe slots 1 and 2 | Either rear kit | PCIe 5.0 x8 in an x16 connector | 1Gb, 10Gb and 25Gb cards |
OCP A is the slot to fill first: on a storage server the risers fill with MR controllers, so a NIC in OCP A costs no expansion. A second OCP slot exists only with a Single Socket Rich I/O processor and the six-slot rear, and needs the OCP SlotB cable kit to connect it; the EDSFF rear has one OCP slot and four PCIe slots, full stop.
Choosing the Right DL340e Gen12 Network Adapter
- Fill OCP A before any riser slot. It is x16 on every configuration and the only networking position that never competes with a storage controller.
- Check the processor before planning OCP B or slot 5. Both exist only with a Rich I/O processor (6511P to 6781P) and the six-slot rear; OCP B is x16 with the MCIO cable kit and x8 with the R1S MCIO kit.
- 100Gb and above needs the fan kit. HPE lists the high-performance fan kit as a requirement for the 100Gb PCIe and OCP adapters and the 200Gb Slingshot NIC; it is not in this option list, so source it before the card goes in.
- BASE-T or optics is a cabling decision. 1Gb is BASE-T only; 10Gb comes both ways (BCM57416 BASE-T, BCM57412 SFP+); 25Gb and above is SFP28, QSFP28, QSFP56 or QSFP112.
Complete Your DL340e Gen12 Build
Slot count depends on the rear kit and the processor — see DL340e Gen12 processors, and the DL340e Gen12 parts listing for the rear enablement kits, OCP cable kits and Fibre Channel HBAs. DL340e Gen12 Networking Adapters FAQ
Does the DL340e Gen12 have built-in network ports?
No. HPE lists no default network controller and states that a choice of OCP or stand-up card is required. The only embedded Ethernet is the dedicated 1GbE iLO 7 management port, which is not a data port.
What is the OCP A slot on the DL340e Gen12?
An embedded OCP 3.0 slot wired at PCIe 5.0 x16, present on every configuration. It takes the OCP3 versions of the Broadcom and Intel adapters and is the natural home for the primary NIC because it uses no riser slot.
Can I fit two OCP adapters in a DL340e Gen12?
Only in one configuration: a Single Socket Rich I/O processor with the Rear 6x PCIe Enablement Kit, plus an OCP SlotB cable kit (x16 MCIO or x8 R1S MCIO). With any other processor, or with the Rear EDSFF kit, there is one OCP slot.
Which 100Gb adapters does the DL340e Gen12 support?
Intel E810-CQDA2 100Gb 2-port QSFP28 in both PCIe and OCP3 form, Mellanox MCX623106AS-CDAT 100Gb QSFP56 (PCIe), Broadcom BCM57608 100Gb QSFP112 (OCP3) and an NVIDIA 100Gb 2-port NVMe-oF Offload adapter (PCIe). HPE requires the high-performance fan kit with all of them.
Does the DL340e Gen12 support InfiniBand?
Yes. HPE lists the HPE InfiniBand NDR/Ethernet 400Gb 1-port OSFP PCIe5 x16 adapter and the NDR200/Ethernet 200Gb 1-port version, both MCX75310AAS-based, for the x16 PCIe slots.
How many PCIe slots does the DL340e Gen12 have for network cards?
Six PCIe 5.0 FHHL slots with the Rear 6x PCIe Enablement Kit - slots 1 and 2 at x8, slots 3 to 6 at x16, with slot 5 available only with a Rich I/O processor - or four slots (1, 2, 3 and 6) with the Rear EDSFF 4x PCIe kit. Storage controllers share the same slots.
