• Memory: 12 DDR3 slots — six per processor, three channels each, two DIMMs per channel — taking Registered or Unbuffered DIMMs to a maximum of 192GB registered or 96GB unbuffered
• Drive bays: a standard cage of four LFF non-hot-plug, six LFF hot-plug or eight SFF hot-plug bays, reaching 18 LFF or 24 SFF once additional cages are fitted

The 'e' is not a typo, and it is not the ML350p. This is the value tower of the ML350 Gen8 line: two sockets on Xeon E5-2400 with three memory channels each, twelve DIMM slots and a 192GB registered ceiling — where the ML350p Gen8 is a separate E5-2600 platform. Check which one is on the label before ordering memory or a processor.

What is the difference between the ML350e Gen8 and the ML350p Gen8?
They are different platforms that share a chassis family name. The ML350e Gen8 is the value model, on the Intel C600 chipset for Xeon E5-2400 processors with three memory channels per socket and twelve DIMM slots. The ML350p Gen8 is the performance model on the E5-2600 series and is documented separately.

What processors does the ML350e Gen8 support?
Up to two Intel Xeon E5-2400 series processors, for eight, twelve or sixteen cores. HPE does not support mixing different processor models, so a second CPU must match the first.

How much memory can an ML350e Gen8 take?
192GB using twelve 16GB Registered DIMMs, or 96GB using twelve 8GB Unbuffered DIMMs. With only one processor installed, six of the twelve slots are unavailable.

How many drives does an ML350e Gen8 hold?
The standard cage is four LFF non-hot-plug bays, six LFF hot-plug bays or eight SFF hot-plug bays. One or two more cages take a hot-plug tower to 12 or 18 LFF bays, or 16 or 24 SFF bays.

Does the ML350e Gen8 need a separate RAID controller?
For most configurations, yes. The embedded Dynamic Smart Array B120i is a SATA controller, and HPE states a SAS controller is required for the eight-bay SFF cage, the six-bay LFF cage and each additional drive cage.

Can an ML350e Gen8 be rack mounted?
The chassis is a 5U tower and the QuickSpecs describe it as rackable with the purchase of a tower to rack conversion tray kit.
