ML30 Gen11 Drive Specifications

• Interfaces & types: SATA (6G) and SAS (12G), as both hard drives (HDD) and solid-state drives (SSD). The onboard M.2 slot supports NVMe (PCIe Gen5 x2) or SATA. The ML30 Gen11 drive bays do not support U.3 NVMe or EDSFF.
• Capacities: SATA and SAS HDDs and SSDs, scaling to roughly 80TB of total storage in the 4-bay LFF chassis.
• Carriers: HPE Gen11 LFF low-profile carrier and SFF Basic Carrier (BC), both for hot-plug SAS/SATA drives.
• Boot & RAID: embedded Intel® VROC SATA RAID (standard), optional HPE Smart Array 12G controllers, and an onboard M.2 boot option (HPE NS204i-u boot device also supported).

Before you order, match the drive to your chassis. The ML30 Gen11 comes as a 4-bay LFF (3.5-inch) or 8-bay SFF (2.5-inch) chassis, and the LFF chassis is offered in non-hot-plug or hot-plug versions. Confirm the form factor, whether your chassis is hot-plug or non-hot-plug, and the correct Gen11 carrier. The drive bays support SAS and SATA only — NVMe is available through the onboard M.2 boot slot, not the front bays.

Drive Form Factors & Carriers

The ML30 Gen11 keeps storage simple for small-business and edge use. The 4-bay LFF (3.5-inch) chassis is available in non-hot-plug or hot-plug versions and is ideal for high-capacity SAS/SATA HDDs, while the 8-bay SFF (2.5-inch) chassis is hot-plug and well suited to SAS/SATA SSDs. For the operating system, an onboard M.2 slot accepts an NVMe (PCIe Gen5) or SATA boot drive. Unlike HPE's larger Gen11 rack servers, the ML30 Gen11 does not offer U.3 NVMe drive bays or EDSFF storage.

Hot-plug LFF and SFF drives use HPE's Gen11 low-profile and Basic Carrier (BC) caddies — distinct from the Smart Carrier used on Gen10 and Gen10 Plus servers — so confirm your drives ship in the correct Gen11 carrier for proper fit and status-LED function. RAID is handled by the embedded Intel® VROC SATA software RAID (standard) or an optional HPE Smart Array 12G controller. What drives are compatible with the HPE ML30 Gen11?

How many drives does the ML30 Gen11 support?

What is the difference between the hot-plug and non-hot-plug models?
The LFF chassis is offered in both non-hot-plug and hot-plug versions, while the SFF chassis is hot-plug. Hot-plug drives let you replace a drive without powering down; non-hot-plug drives require the server to be shut down. Either way, use drives in the correct Gen11 carrier for your chassis.
