ML110 Gen11 at a glance

Processors

One Intel Xeon Scalable processor, 4th Gen (model numbers x4xx) or 5th Gen (x5xx), Bronze to Gold. The Bronze 3508U supports up to PCIe Gen4. Intel VROC NVMe is not supported with the Silver 4510, Silver 4509Y or Bronze 3508U. With an NVIDIA L4 GPU, HPE limits the processor to 150W. ML110 Gen11 Processors

Memory

16 DIMM slots on 8 channels. DDR5-4800 kits for 4th Gen, DDR5-5600 for 5th Gen.

Up to 1.5TB with 96GB DDR5-5600 RDIMMs in all 16 slots and a 5th Gen processor, or 1TB with 64GB DDR5-4800 RDIMMs and a 4th Gen processor; HPE prints both at 4400 MT/s. A processor rated lower, such as the Silver 4410Y (4000 MT/s), limits memory to its rating.

The 96GB kit is not supported with the Silver 4510, Silver 4509Y or Bronze 3508U, and it limits inlet temperature to 25°C. Install 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 DIMMs. x4 kits (64GB, 96GB) do not mix with x8 kits (16GB, 32GB), and single-rank 16GB kits share a channel with dual-rank kits only when all 16 slots are filled. Drives

Up to 16 SFF drives in the SFF model with the 8SFF Drive Cage Kit (P53483-B21). The embedded SATA RAID covers 8 of them; for all 16 on one controller, use an MR216i or MR416i. Or 8 LFF drives with a second 4LFF cage (P53482-B21 hot-plug, P53481-B21 non-hot-plug).

The LFF chassis can mix LFF and SFF cages, two in all; the non-hot-plug model takes no other cage type. Two onboard M.2 slots, SATA or NVMe, not mixed.

SAS 10K or 15K SFF hard drives, SAS4 SFF SSDs and the NS204i-u boot device need the Redundant Fan Kit (P49984-B21), and SAS 15K SFF hard drives and SAS4 SFF SSDs of 15W or more limit inlet temperature to 25°C. The NS204i-u also needs its Enablement Kit (P61742-B21), does not fit the non-hot-plug model, and takes the embedded SATA controller away from the drive bays. ML110 Gen11 Drives

Storage controllers

Embedded Intel VROC SATA RAID, UEFI mode only and off until enabled; MR216i, MR408i and MR416i tri-mode controllers, OCP or PCIe; the Smart Array E208e-p for up to 8 external drives. HPE does not support mixing MR and SR controllers for internal drives.

The MR408i and MR416i need a Smart Storage Battery or Hybrid Capacitor with 260mm cable. Cable kits: a PCIe controller needs P55859-B21 for an SFF cage or P53484-B21 for an LFF cage; the embedded or an OCP controller needs P53485-B21 for an SFF cage. ML110 Gen11 Storage Controllers

Networking

Two embedded 1GbE ports, PCIe adapters and one OCP 3.0 slot, which takes either an OCP network adapter or an OCP storage controller; a dedicated 1Gb iLO port. ML110 Gen11 Networking Adapters

Expansion

Two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, 1 and 4. The GPU Riser Kit (P53487-B21) adds slot 2, and the Second GPU Riser Kit (P53488-B21) adds slot 3 and needs the first. A double-width card goes only in slot 2, and then slot 3 is unavailable.

Any GPU needs the Redundant Fan Kit (P49984-B21), and GPU types do not mix. An NVIDIA L4 GPU goes only in the GPU riser slots, up to two, and needs the L4 GPU Support Kit (P66618-B21), with inlet temperature limited to 25°C. Riser cards

Before you order memory, check the processor generation. For Gold, Silver and Bronze models the second digit of the model number tells you: a 4 (Silver 4410Y) is 4th Gen and takes DDR5-4800 kits; a 5 (Silver 4510) is 5th Gen and takes DDR5-5600 kits. ML110 Gen11 parts questions

How much memory does the ML110 Gen11 support?

Up to 1.5TB: 96GB DDR5-5600 RDIMMs in all 16 slots with a 5th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor. With a 4th Gen processor the maximum is 1TB, 64GB DDR5-4800 RDIMMs in all 16 slots. HPE prints both at 4400 MT/s with two DIMMs per channel; a processor rated lower, such as the Silver 4410Y (4000 MT/s), limits memory to its rating. The 96GB kit is not supported with the Silver 4510, Silver 4509Y or Bronze 3508U, so with those processors the maximum is 1TB. The 96GB kit also limits inlet temperature to 25°C. Install 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 or 16 DIMMs, and do not mix x4 kits (64GB, 96GB) with x8 kits (16GB, 32GB).

Which drives fit the ML110 Gen11?

2.5-inch SFF drives on HPE's Basic Carrier (BC), and 3.5-inch LFF hard drives on the Low Profile (LP) carrier or LFF SSDs on the LPC carrier, in SAS or SATA; SATA or NVMe M.2 SSDs in the two onboard slots. The non-hot-plug model takes SATA drives in non-hot-plug cages. SAS drives need a storage controller, because the embedded RAID is SATA only.

How do I tell which processor generation my ML110 Gen11 has?

Read the processor model in iLO under System Information › Processors. For Gold, Silver and Bronze models the second digit of the model number is the generation: a 4 (Silver 4410Y) means 4th Gen, a 5 (Silver 4510) means 5th Gen. It decides the memory kit: DDR5-4800 for 4th Gen, DDR5-5600 for 5th Gen.

Is my server an ML110 Gen11 or an ML110 Gen10?

Check the processor model number. The Gen11 runs 4th or 5th Gen Xeon Scalable processors (x4xx or x5xx, such as Silver 4410Y or Silver 4510) with DDR5 memory in 16 slots. The Gen10 runs 1st or 2nd Gen (x1xx or x2xx, such as Silver 4110 or Silver 4210) with DDR4-2666 or DDR4-2933 memory in 6 slots. HPE states that Smart Memory from earlier server generations is not compatible with the Gen11, so buy memory and processors from the page for your generation.
