Choosing the Right DL60 Gen9 Memory
- Check which technology is fitted before ordering. Registered and Load Reduced cannot be mixed, so one wrong module means rebuilding the bank rather than losing a little speed.
- Match the kit to the processor family. DDR4-2133 CAS-15 kits are documented for E5-2600 v3 processors, and DDR4-2400 CAS-17 kits for v4 — a 2400MHz kit in a v3 server is money the machine cannot spend.
- The processor sets the clock, not the module. An E5-2609v3 holds the bus at 1600MHz however the DIMMs are rated, where an E5-2650v3 or E5-2660v3 reaches 2133MHz.
- There is no population penalty here. With one DIMM per channel there is no second-DIMM step-down to plan around, so filling all eight slots costs no speed at all.
- Every option kit is a single DIMM. A 128GB build is four 32GB kits or eight 16GB kits, and HPE asks that capacity be balanced across both processors.
