HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen10 Power Supplies

HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen10 Power Supplies

Genuine HPE Flex Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen10, new and refurbished. One rule governs every order on this page: HPE does not support mixing two different power supplies in the same server, so the unit already fitted is the specification for the second one.

DL180 Gen10 Power Supply Specifications

  • Format: HPE Flexible Slot (Flex Slot) hot-plug supplies, a common electrical and physical design shared across ProLiant Gen10 servers and installed tool-lessly
  • Outputs stocked: 500W and 800W Platinum, 800W Titanium, an 800W universal high voltage AC/DC unit, an 800W −48VDC unit, and 1600W Platinum
  • Efficiency: the 500W Platinum unit is rated at 94%, the 800W Platinum is available in 94% and 96% grades, and the 800W Titanium part is one of those HPE names as 96% efficient single-output supplies
  • Redundancy: HPE lists the DL160/180 Gen10 Redundant Power Supply Enablement Kit as required with the selection of a Flex Slot power supply
  • Input: a rated line voltage of 100 to 120 VAC or 200 to 240 VAC per supply, with a 6-foot IEC C-13/C-14 jumper cord included with each standard AC option kit
  • Cooling: single rotor hot-swap fans — three on a one-processor server and five on a two-processor server, rising to four and six respectively when the fans are redundant

Mixing power supplies is not supported, and a redundant pair is more than two units. HPE requires both supplies to match on output and efficiency grade — two 800W units are still a mismatch if one is Platinum and the other Titanium — and it lists the DL160/180 Gen10 Redundant Power Supply Enablement Kit as required with the selection of a Flex Slot supply.

Which Flex Slot Supply Does Your Build Need?

OutputGrade stockedSuits
500WPlatinum, 94%One processor and a modest drive count — the supply HPE shipped on its pre-configured models
800WPlatinum or TitaniumTwo processors with a populated front end
800WUniversal high voltage AC/DC, or −48VDCRacks fed by high voltage DC or by −48V rectifiers
1600WPlatinumThe largest output HPE lists for this server

Oversizing costs efficiency as well as money, because a supply running far below its rated load sits away from its best efficiency point. HPE publishes the steady-state figures for the 500W unit in this document — 500W at 100 VAC and at 240 VAC, up to 1979 BTU/hr. For a server of this age the honest shortcut is to match the label on the unit already fitted, unless the machine has gained processors or drives since it was built.

Choosing the Right DL180 Gen10 Power Supply

  • Read the label on the installed unit first. Mixing two different power supplies is not supported, so output and efficiency grade both have to match.
  • Platinum and Titanium do not mix. Two 800W units are still a mismatch if one is Platinum and the other Titanium.
  • Redundancy needs the enablement kit. HPE lists the DL160/180 Gen10 Redundant Power Supply Enablement Kit as required with the selection of a Flex Slot power supply, so a second unit on its own is not the whole order.
  • Account for the drives and the second processor. A twelve-bay LFF build with two processors is a different power budget from a one-processor 8SFF server, and it runs five fans rather than three.
  • The DC units are a different world. The −48VDC and universal high voltage AC/DC supplies belong in racks fed that way, and are not alternatives to an AC unit on a standard rack feed.

DL180 Gen10 Power Supplies FAQ

Can I mix power supplies in a DL180 Gen10?
No. HPE states that mixing two different power supplies is not supported, so a second unit has to match the first on output and on efficiency grade.

Do I need anything besides a second power supply for redundancy?
Yes. HPE lists the DL160/180 Gen10 Redundant Power Supply Enablement Kit as required with the selection of a Flex Slot power supply.

What wattage power supply does a DL180 Gen10 need?
It depends on the build. HPE shipped 500W on its pre-configured single-processor models, 800W covers two-processor configurations with a populated front end, and 1600W is the largest output listed for this server.

Are DL180 Gen10 power supplies hot-plug?
Yes. Flex Slot supplies are hot-plug and install tool-lessly, so in a redundant pair one can be changed while the server keeps running.

What is the difference between Platinum and Titanium?
They are efficiency grades, with Titanium the higher of the two. HPE rates the 500W Platinum unit at 94 percent, lists the 800W Platinum in 94 and 96 percent versions, and names the 800W Titanium part among its 96 percent efficient single-output supplies.

What input voltage does the DL180 Gen10 accept?
A rated line voltage of 100 to 120 VAC or 200 to 240 VAC per power supply. Each standard AC option kit includes a 6-foot IEC C-13/C-14 jumper cord.
