HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen10 Networking Adapters
Genuine HPE Ethernet server adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL180 Gen10, new and refurbished. The server ships with two embedded 1GbE ports, so an add-in card here buys speed or port count — and the first thing to settle is which riser is fitted, because a FlexibleLOM adapter does not go in a PCIe slot.
DL180 Gen10 Networking Specifications
- Embedded networking: a 2-port 1GbE network controller on the system board, plus a separate 1Gb dedicated iLO management port and a front iLO Service Port
- Primary riser options: PCI Express 3.0 throughout at 48 lanes per processor, as three x8 slots, or one x16 and one x8, or the riser that carries the FlexibleLOM connector alongside two x8 slots
- FlexibleLOM rules: the connector sits on that one riser option, HPE ties it to processor 1, only one FlexibleLOM can be added to the server, and the FlexibleLOM Enablement Kit is required to install one
- Secondary riser: three more x8 slots or an x16 with a low profile x8, and it works only once the second processor is installed
- PCIe cards stocked: two- and four-port 1Gb BASE-T adapters, 10Gb BASE-T and 10Gb SFP+ adapters, and a 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 adapter
- FlexibleLOM cards stocked: four-port 1Gb FLR-T, 10Gb FLR-T, and the 10/25Gb FLR-SFP28
- Cables: direct attach copper for copper environments, or transceivers and fibre for optical ones, must be purchased separately from the adapter
A FlexibleLOM adapter is not a PCIe card. The FLR connector sits on one specific primary riser option, HPE ties it to processor 1, only one FlexibleLOM is allowed per server, and the FlexibleLOM Enablement Kit is required to install it. If the machine was built with the three-slot x8 riser or the x16 riser, an FLR card has nowhere to go — confirm the riser before ordering one.
PCIe Card or FlexibleLOM?
| What you need | Where it goes | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| More 1 Gigabit copper ports | Any PCIe 3.0 slot | The four-port I350-T4V2 is limited to one per system and to slot 1 |
| 10 Gigabit over RJ-45 or SFP+ | Any PCIe 3.0 slot | Transceivers and cables are a separate order |
| 25 Gigabit over SFP28 | A PCIe slot or the FlexibleLOM connector | The SFP28 adapters run at 10Gb as well as 25Gb |
| Ports without spending a slot | The FlexibleLOM connector | Needs the FlexibleLOM riser and the enablement kit, one per server |
The last row is the one that catches people out. The FlexibleLOM connector lives on a single riser option, HPE ties it to processor 1, and the enablement kit is a separate part — so a DL180 Gen10 built with the three-slot x8 riser or the x16 riser has nowhere to seat an FLR card. If you cannot confirm which riser is in the machine, the standard PCIe version of the same adapter is the safer order.
Choosing the Right DL180 Gen10 Network Adapter
- Count slots against processors. The secondary riser's slots only exist once the second processor is installed, so a one-processor server has two or three slots in total and a plug-in storage controller may already hold one.
- Check the per-slot rules. HPE limits the four-port 1Gb I350-T4V2 adapter to one per system and to slot 1, whatever else is free.
- Match the media, not just the speed. An SFP+ or SFP28 card and a 10GBASE-T switch port will not connect without the right optics between them.
- Cables and transceivers are separate. Direct attach copper for short runs, transceivers and fibre for longer ones, neither included with the card.
- A FlexibleLOM needs more than the card. The riser that carries the connector and the FlexibleLOM Enablement Kit both have to be in place before an FLR adapter is any use.

Slot pressure is the real constraint on this server — see DL180 Gen10 storage controllers for which cards are modular and which take a slot. DL180 Gen10 Networking Adapters FAQ
How many network ports does a DL180 Gen10 have as standard?
Two. The server ships with a 2-port 1GbE embedded network controller, and the 1Gb dedicated iLO management port is separate from those two.
Does the DL180 Gen10 support 25 Gigabit Ethernet?
Yes, through a 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 adapter. It is listed for this server both as a PCIe card and as a FlexibleLOM.
What is a FlexibleLOM and will one fit my server?
It is an adapter that uses a dedicated connector instead of a PCIe slot, and that connector sits on one specific riser option. A server built with the three-slot x8 riser or the x16 riser has nowhere to seat one.
How many FlexibleLOM adapters can I fit?
One. HPE allows a single FlexibleLOM per server, and the FlexibleLOM Enablement Kit is required to install it.
How many PCIe slots does the DL180 Gen10 have?
Two or three on the primary riser, depending which riser was chosen, and two or three more on an optional secondary riser that requires the second processor.
Are cables included with SFP+ and SFP28 adapters?
No. Direct attach copper cables for copper environments, or transceivers and fibre for optical ones, are purchased separately from the adapter.
