- Protection modes: Advanced ECC with single device data correction, and Online Spare, which detects a degrading rank and switches operation to a spare
The memory kit follows the processor, not the capacity you want. HPE supports DDR4-2933 kits only with 2nd Generation Xeon Scalable processors and DDR4-2666 kits only with 1st Generation, and the second digit of the processor model number tells you which you have. The bus then runs at whatever the processor allows — 2133 MT/s on Bronze, 2400 MT/s on Silver — however the modules are rated.

The rating on the kit and the speed the bus actually runs at are two different numbers, and on this platform that gap costs money. A DDR4-2933 kit is the only kit HPE supports behind a 2nd Generation processor, but a Silver 4210 still holds the bus at 2400 MT/s and a Bronze 3204 at 2133 MT/s whatever is in the slots. Buy the kit the generation requires, then read the real speed off the processor.
Choosing the Right DL180 Gen10 Memory
- Identify the processor generation before ordering. The second digit of the model number carries it: x1xx is 1st Generation and x2xx is 2nd, so a Silver 4210 takes DDR4-2933 and a Silver 4110 takes DDR4-2666.
- Registered and Load Reduced cannot be mixed. Whichever technology is fitted is what an upgrade has to match, and converting a server means replacing every module in it.
- The maximum is not the balanced configuration. HPE's population order for this platform flags five, seven and eight DIMMs per processor as unbalanced; six per processor fills every channel once, which is twelve 64GB modules and 768GB rather than the 1.0TB ceiling.
- Balance capacity across both processors. DIMMs only work where the matching processor is installed, and HPE asks that total capacity be balanced between the two.
- Every option kit here is a single DIMM. A 16GB kit is one 16GB module, so a full sixteen-slot build is sixteen kits.
