HPE ProLiant SL4545 G7 Memory
Genuine HPE SmartMemory DDR3 for the HPE ProLiant SL4545 G7, new and refurbished. Memory belongs to the server node rather than the chassis: each node carries 12 DIMM slots, six dedicated to each socket, and Registered and Ultra Low Voltage modules are distinct technologies that HPE will not let you mix in one server.
SL4545 G7 Memory Specifications
- Type: HPE SmartMemory DDR3, either Registered (RDIMM) in PC3L-10600R low voltage or Ultra Low Voltage (ULVDIMM) in PC3U-10600R, both rated DDR3-1333 CAS-9
- Slots: 12 per server node, six dedicated to each processor socket — the second six open only when a second processor is fitted
- Maximum: 192GB per server tray, as twelve 16GB registered modules; a chassis holds up to three nodes, each with its own twelve slots
- Kit sizes stocked: 4GB single rank x4, 8GB dual rank x4 and 16GB dual rank x4, in both the PC3L and PC3U voltage classes
- Speed: the AMD Opteron 4200 series supports DDR3 up to 1600MHz, with the speed actually reached depending on the quantity and type of DIMMs installed
- Protection and mixing: Advanced ECC multi-bit error protection; RDIMMs and ULVDIMMs are distinct memory technologies and cannot be mixed within a server
Registered and Ultra Low Voltage cannot be mixed, and they look identical on paper. PC3L-10600R and PC3U-10600R parts come in the same 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities at the same DDR3-1333 CAS-9 rating, but HPE treats them as distinct technologies. Check the part number on a fitted DIMM first — converting a node means replacing all twelve modules in it.
Registered or Ultra Low Voltage: Which Does Your Node Run?
| Registered (PC3L-10600R) | Ultra Low Voltage (PC3U-10600R) | |
|---|---|---|
| Kit sizes stocked | 4GB, 8GB, 16GB | 4GB, 8GB, 16GB |
| Rank | 4GB single rank, 8GB and 16GB dual rank | 4GB single rank, 8GB and 16GB dual rank |
| Rated speed | DDR3-1333, CAS-9 | DDR3-1333, CAS-9 |
| Maximum per node | 192GB on twelve 16GB modules | 192GB on twelve 16GB modules |
| Mixing with the other type | Not supported | Not supported |
The two columns look alike because they are the same capacities, ranks and rated speed; the voltage class is the whole difference, and HPE still treats them as separate technologies. That makes this a question of what is fitted rather than what is better — converting a node means replacing all twelve modules, so an installed DIMM's part number is the specification for every kit you add.
Choosing the Right SL4545 G7 Memory
- Read the label before ordering. PC3L and PC3U parts carry the same capacities at the same speed, so the printed part number is the only reliable way to tell which class a node runs.
- Buy per node, not per chassis. A 3x15 chassis holds three independent servers, each with its own twelve slots and its own 192GB ceiling.
- The second processor opens the other six slots. Six slots are dedicated to each socket, so a single-processor node reaches half the documented maximum however large the modules are.
- Every kit here is a single DIMM. The 1x4GB, 1x8GB and 1x16GB kit names are literal, so filling a node is twelve kits rather than one boxed set.
- Do not expect 1600MHz from these modules. The processors support it, but every DDR3 option HPE lists for this server is rated DDR3-1333.

SL4545 G7 Memory FAQ
How much memory can an SL4545 G7 take?
192GB per server node, reached with twelve 16GB registered modules. The chassis holds one, two or three nodes depending on the model, and each has its own twelve slots and its own ceiling.
Can I mix RDIMM and ULVDIMM in an SL4545 G7?
No. HPE calls them distinct memory technologies that cannot be mixed within a server, so whichever class is fitted today is what any upgrade has to match.
How many memory slots does an SL4545 G7 have?
Twelve per server node, six of them dedicated to each processor socket. With one processor installed only six are usable.
What is the difference between PC3L and PC3U memory?
Voltage class. PC3L-10600R parts are the Low Voltage Registered modules and PC3U-10600R the Ultra Low Voltage ones. Capacities, ranks and the DDR3-1333 CAS-9 rating are the same across both, and the two cannot be mixed.
Will SL4545 G7 memory run at 1600MHz?
The AMD Opteron 4200 series processors support DDR3 up to 1600MHz, but HPE notes the speed actually reached depends on the quantity and type of DIMMs installed. Every memory kit listed for this server is rated DDR3-1333.
Do these memory kits contain more than one DIMM?
No. Each kit is a single module - 1x4GB, 1x8GB or 1x16GB - so a fully populated node is twelve kits.
