The four solid state part numbers are the 60GB and 120GB 3G SATA midline drives, and they are the only SSDs on this page. Drives larger and faster than the document contemplates will run, at the rate the slowest link in the path allows.
Choosing the Right DL380 G6 Hard Drive
- Confirm SFF or LFF first. It is the one mistake that cannot be worked around, and the front of the chassis answers it in a glance.
- Match the whole storage path. HPE notes that the drive, controller, firmware and backplane should all run at the same transfer rate, or the system negotiates down to the slowest — so a 12G drive here runs at the controller's rate.
- The second cage can be a 3Gb path. Feeding those eight extra bays from the SAS Expander Card puts them on a 24-bay 3Gb device; a second Smart Array controller keeps them at the card's own rate.
- SAS for transactional work, SATA midline for bulk. Enterprise SAS carries the higher spindle speeds and duty cycle; midline SATA carries the capacity per pound.
