HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus Drives
The HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus takes 2.5-inch SFF drives on HPE's Basic Carrier (BC): eight in the front, plus two in the optional media bay. They can be SAS, SATA or NVMe (U.3 and U.2), depending on the backplane. A Smart Array controller runs SAS and SATA, a tri-mode controller adds NVMe, and the embedded controller runs SATA drives direct attached. HPE also lists M.2 SSDs: SATA on the M.2 enablement kit, and NVMe on the NS204i-r riser.

Which drives fit the DL365 Gen10 Plus
Every bay takes 2.5-inch SFF drives on the Basic Carrier (BC); the backplane and controller set the interface. HPE's maximum counts:

Which backplane? How to tell
- Count the front bays. Every DL365 Gen10 Plus has eight 2.5-inch SFF bays. Two more in the media bay mean a 2SFF drive kit; an optical drive there means no 2SFF kit.
- Match the backplane kit. P38579-B21 is the 8SFF SAS/SATA backplane, P26429-B21 the 8SFF x4 tri-mode U.3 and P26433-B21 the 8SFF x4 NVMe U.2. In the media bay, P38580-B21 is 2SFF SAS/SATA, P38581-B21 2SFF U.3 and P38582-B21 2SFF U.2.
- Check the controller. An MR216i, MR416i, SR416i or SR932i is tri-mode; a Smart Array E208i, P408i or P816i runs SAS and SATA. With neither, SATA drives run direct attached on the embedded controller.

Three rules before you order
Basic Carrier SFF only
HPE lists only Basic Carrier (BC) drives for the DL365 Gen10 Plus's SFF bays. It is an 8SFF server: HPE offers no LFF model and no rear drive cages.
The backplane and controller set the interface
The SAS/SATA backplanes take SAS and SATA on a Smart Array or tri-mode controller, or SATA direct attached. NVMe needs the x4 U.3 or U.2 backplanes, on a tri-mode controller or HPE's NVMe Direct FIO bundle; SR100i NVMe RAID does not support U.2 drives.
Plan the media bay and fans
A 2SFF drive kit needs an 8SFF drive cage, rules out the optical drive, and is not supported with the EPYC 7473X, 7573X or 7773X processors; U.3 and U.2 backplane kits cannot be mixed. HPE says performance fan kits should be required with NVMe or SAS4 drives.

What drives fit the HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus?
2.5-inch SFF drives on HPE's Basic Carrier (BC) in SAS, SATA or NVMe (U.3 and U.2): eight in the front and two in the optional media bay. HPE also lists SATA M.2 SSDs on a PCIe M.2 kit and NVMe M.2 SSDs for the NS204i-r riser. The backplane and controller decide which interfaces work.
Do drives from a DL365 Gen11 fit the DL365 Gen10 Plus?
HPE lists Basic Carrier (BC) SFF drives for both, and some part numbers, such as P28352-B21 and P40498-B21, are on both lists. Check that the part number is on this page.
Does the DL365 Gen10 Plus support NVMe drives?
Yes. With the x4 tri-mode U.3 or x4 NVMe U.2 backplane, the 8 front bays take NVMe drives, and a U.3 or U.2 2SFF kit adds two in the media bay, for 10 in all. They run on a tri-mode controller or HPE's NVMe Direct FIO bundle. SR100i NVMe RAID covers 2 U.3 NVMe SSDs and does not support U.2 drives.
How many drives does the DL365 Gen10 Plus hold?
Up to 10 SFF drives: 8 in the front and 2 in the media bay, by HPE's count. HPE offers no rear drive cages and no LFF model for it.
Can I run SATA drives without a RAID controller?
Yes. The 8SFF SAS/SATA drive cage can be direct attached with HPE's 8SFF SATA Direct Attach Cable Kit (P44886-B21). The embedded SR100i software RAID covers up to 8 SFF SATA drives; it runs in UEFI mode only and supports Microsoft Windows Server only, and the embedded controller works in AHCI mode by default.
What boot and optical options does the DL365 Gen10 Plus have?
HPE lists the NS204i-p NVMe OS boot device (P12965-B21) for slot 1 of the primary riser, and the NS204i-r M.2 riser (P26463-B21), which replaces the primary riser and takes HPE's NVMe M.2 SSDs. A 9.5mm SATA DVD-ROM or DVD-RW fits the media bay of the 8SFF CTO server, but not with a 2SFF drive cage or the M.2 kit (878783-B21).
