HPE ProLiant DL120 G7 Parts
The HPE ProLiant DL120 G7 is the entry 1U rack server of the G7 line: a single processor socket on the Intel C200 Series chipset, four unbuffered DDR3 slots and a front end of four large form factor bays. Every part below is genuine HPE, available new and refurbished, and tested for compatibility before it ships. Live pricing for each part number appears in the tables further down this page.
DL120 G7 Platform at a Glance
- Processor: one socket, taking a quad-core Intel Xeon E3-1200 series part with up to 8MB of Intel Smart Cache or a dual-core Core i3, Pentium or Celeron; HPE listed every DL120 G7 processor as a factory-installable option kit, so the CPU was never a field upgrade here
- Memory: four DDR3-1333 Unbuffered ECC (UDIMM) slots, two channels of two, to a documented maximum of 32GB; HPE records no support for Registered DIMMs or non-ECC modules
- Drive bays: up to four pluggable 3.5-inch LFF SAS or SATA bays — cold plug on entry and base models, hot plug on the performance model — or eight hot-plug 2.5-inch SFF bays on the configure-to-order SFF chassis
- Maximum internal storage: 8.0TB on four 2TB LFF SAS drives, or 16.0TB on four 4TB LFF SATA drives
- Storage controller: embedded HPE Smart Array B110i SATA RAID at 3Gb/s with RAID 0, 1 and 1+0 on entry and base models, or a Smart Array P212 with 256MB cache and RAID 5 and 5+0 on the performance model
- Networking: two embedded HPE NC112i 1-Port Ethernet Server Adapters — two RJ-45 ports — with NIC 2 doubling as the shared iLO management port
- Expansion: two PCI Express Gen2 slots — slot 1 full length and full height with sixteen lanes on an x16 connector, slot 2 half height and low profile with four lanes on an x8 connector
- Power and cooling: one auto-sensing power-factor-corrected supply as shipped, with four dual-rotor fans that are not hot-plug
- Management: embedded HPE iLO 3 with an optional dedicated LAN port, plus seven USB 2.0 ports — two front, four rear and one internal
- Form factor: 1U rack, 44.45 × 448.1 × 700.0 mm (1.75 × 17.64 × 27.56 in) with bezel, and fixed mounting rails ship with all models
This is a single-socket server, and two of its limits do most of the work. Memory is Unbuffered ECC DDR3 only across four slots to 32GB, with no Registered DIMM support at all; and the embedded Smart Array B110i is SATA only, so a SAS drive needs a controller card in one of the two PCIe slots before it needs a bay.
Specifications on this page are taken from the HPE QuickSpecs for this server, HPE ProLiant DL120 Generation 7 (G7) QuickSpecs, Version 22.

DL120 G7 Parts FAQ
What processor does the DL120 G7 use?
One. The server has a single socket on the Intel C200 Series chipset, taking a quad-core Xeon E3-1200 series part or a dual-core Core i3, Pentium or Celeron. HPE listed every one of them as a factory-installable option kit, so the CPU was not a field upgrade.
How much memory can a DL120 G7 take?
32GB, as four 8GB Unbuffered ECC DDR3-1333 modules across its four slots. HPE documents no support for Registered DIMMs in this server, and none for non-ECC modules.
How many hard drives does a DL120 G7 hold?
Four 3.5-inch LFF drives on the standard chassis. HPE also documented an eight-bay 2.5-inch SFF configure-to-order chassis, which it notes requires a Smart Array P410 controller bought separately.
Does the DL120 G7 support SAS drives?
Not from the embedded controller. The Smart Array B110i is a SATA RAID controller at 3Gb/s, and HPE notes that SAS requires an optional host bus adapter or Smart Array card in one of the two PCIe slots.
Is the DL120 G7 power supply redundant?
Not as shipped. It ships with one auto-sensing power-factor-corrected supply; redundancy came from the 365W Redundant Power Supply Kit with Backplane, which brings the backplane as well as the unit.
Does a DL120 G7 need a rail kit?
No. HPE states that fixed mounting rails are included with all models of this server, so the rails are one thing you do not have to buy for it.
