HPE ProLiant DL120 G7 Networking Adapters
Genuine HPE Ethernet server adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL120 G7, new and refurbished. The server starts with two Gigabit ports from two embedded NC112i adapters, and one of those two is shared with iLO unless the dedicated management port option is fitted — so on this platform an add-in card is usually bought for port count, not for bandwidth.
DL120 G7 Networking Specifications
- Embedded networking: two HPE NC112i 1-Port Ethernet Server Adapters, giving two RJ-45 ports in total
- Management port: NIC 2 doubles as the shared iLO management port; HPE documents an optional dedicated iLO 3 LAN port for servers that need iLO on a connection of its own
- Expansion: two PCI Express Gen2 slots — slot 1 full length and full height with sixteen lanes on an x16 connector, slot 2 half height and low profile with four lanes on an x8 connector
- Gigabit copper cards listed: NC112T single port, NC360T dual port, NC373T and NC382T dual-port Multifunction, NC365T four-port and NC375T quad port
- Gigabit fibre: the NC373F PCI-E Multifunction 1000SX Gigabit Server Adapter, for optical runs rather than copper
- Speed ceiling: every networking option HPE documents for this server is Gigabit; there is no 10 Gigabit adapter in its QuickSpecs
- iLO 3 connections: one Ethernet sideband connection at 10/100/1000 Mb/s and one Ethernet network connection at 10/100 Mb/s
One of your two onboard ports may already be doing two jobs. The DL120 G7 ships with two Gigabit ports from two embedded NC112i adapters, and NIC 2 doubles as the shared iLO management port unless the dedicated iLO port option is fitted. Count that before assuming the server has two free data ports.
How many ports do you actually need?
| What you need | Card listed for this server |
|---|---|
| One more port, in the low-profile slot | NC112T PCI Express Gigabit Server Adapter |
| Two more ports | NC360T dual port, or the NC373T or NC382T Multifunction adapters |
| Four more ports | NC365T four-port or NC375T quad port |
| Gigabit over fibre | NC373F PCI-E Multifunction 1000SX |
A quad-port card takes this server from two ports to six, and it takes one of the two slots with it. That is the trade worth thinking about before ordering: SAS storage on a DL120 G7 also needs a slot, so a machine with a Smart Array card already fitted has exactly one slot left, and if that slot is the half-height one the card has to be low profile.
Choosing the Right DL120 G7 Network Adapter
- Check the slot before the card. Slot 2 is half height and low profile, with four electrical lanes on an x8 connector, so a full-height bracket only goes in slot 1.
- Remember what else wants a slot. There are two in total, and SAS drives on this server mean a Smart Array or host bus adapter in one of them.
- NIC 2 may already be doing two jobs. iLO shares that port unless the dedicated iLO management port option is installed, which is worth knowing before you count the server as having two free data ports.
- Match the media, not just the speed. The NC373F is 1000SX optical; every other adapter listed for this server is RJ-45 copper, and the two do not meet without the right optics between them.

DL120 G7 Networking Adapters FAQ
How many network ports does a DL120 G7 have as standard?
Two RJ-45 ports, from two embedded HPE NC112i 1-Port Ethernet Server Adapters. One of the two doubles as the shared iLO management port unless the dedicated iLO port option is fitted.
Does the DL120 G7 support 10 Gigabit Ethernet?
HPE lists no 10 Gigabit adapter for this server. Every networking option in its QuickSpecs is Gigabit, in copper or 1000SX fibre.
Does iLO 3 have its own network port on this server?
Not as standard. iLO shares NIC 2, and HPE documents an optional dedicated iLO 3 LAN port for machines that need the management connection separated from the data ports.
Which adapters fit the low-profile slot?
Slot 2 is half height and low profile with four electrical lanes on an x8 connector, so it takes low-profile cards only. A full-height card has to go in slot 1.
Can I add fibre networking to a DL120 G7?
Yes. The NC373F PCI-E Multifunction 1000SX Gigabit Server Adapter is the optical card HPE lists for this server, for runs where copper will not reach.
How many Ethernet ports can a DL120 G7 end up with?
Six: the two embedded Gigabit ports plus a quad-port card such as the NC365T or NC375T. That uses one of the server's two PCIe slots.
