HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen10 Networking Adapters
Genuine HPE Ethernet adapters for the HPE ProLiant DL160 Gen10, new and refurbished. The chassis ships with two 1GbE ports embedded on board, and everything above that arrives one of two ways: as a FlexibleLOM on the FlexibleLOM riser, or as a stand-up card in one of at most three PCIe 3.0 slots.
DL160 Gen10 Networking Specifications
- Embedded networking: two 1GbE ports on board, alongside a dedicated 1Gb iLO 5 remote management port and a front iLO Service Port
- Primary riser: slot 1 is PCIe 3.0 x16 full-height half-length and slot 2 is PCIe 3.0 x8 low profile, both served by CPU1
- CPU2 riser: slot 3 is PCIe 3.0 x16 low profile, requires the second processor, and cannot be installed alongside a type-a modular Smart Array controller — three PCIe slots is the ceiling
- FlexibleLOM riser: the FlexibleLOM Riser Kit (875748-B21) is mandatory for FlexibleLOM cards and replaces the standard CPU1 x16/x8 riser, and only one FlexibleLOM can be added to the server
- Placement rules: HPE documents the 10 Gigabit stand-up cards as supported in slot 2 and slot 3 only, and the 1 Gigabit stand-up cards in slot 1 and slot 3 only
- Speeds on this page: 1Gb BASE-T in two-port and four-port form, 10Gb BASE-T and SFP+, 10/25Gb SFP28, FlexibleLOM equivalents, and a 100Gb Omni-Path adapter
Identify the riser before you choose the card. FlexibleLOM cards need the FlexibleLOM Riser Kit 875748-B21, which replaces the standard CPU1 x16/x8 riser rather than adding to it, and only one FlexibleLOM can be added to the server. Stand-up cards carry slot rules of their own: 10 Gigabit adapters in slot 2 and slot 3, 1 Gigabit adapters in slot 1 and slot 3.
FlexibleLOM or Stand-up Card — Which Path Does Your Server Have?
| Upgrade path | What it requires | Slot cost | On this page |
|---|---|---|---|
| FlexibleLOM | FlexibleLOM Riser Kit 875748-B21, replacing the standard CPU1 riser | No PCIe slot, but one FlexibleLOM per server | 10/25Gb FLR-SFP28, 10Gb FLR-T, 1Gb 4-port FLR-T |
| Stand-up 10Gb and 25Gb | Slot 2 or slot 3 | One of the three PCIe slots | SFP28, SFP+ and 10Gb BASE-T cards |
| Stand-up 1Gb | Slot 1 or slot 3 | One of the three PCIe slots | 2-port and 4-port BASE-T cards |
The riser is the decision that comes before the card. Fitting the FlexibleLOM riser replaces the standard CPU1 riser rather than adding to it, so the slot layout changes with it, and a FlexibleLOM card will not seat in a standard PCIe slot in any case. Slot 3 is the one that keeps disappearing: it needs the second processor, and a type-a modular Smart Array controller rules it out entirely.
Choosing the Right DL160 Gen10 Network Adapter
- Identify the riser before the card. FLR parts and stand-up parts are not interchangeable, and the FlexibleLOM riser kit is not optional for FLR cards.
- Respect the slot restrictions. A 10 Gigabit card in slot 1, or a four-port Gigabit card in slot 2, is outside what HPE documents for this server.
- Match the media, not only the speed. BASE-T and SFP28 cards at the same rating connect to different switch ports, and swapping one for the other is not a cable change.
- Two Gigabit ports already exist. A 1Gb card here is for port count or for separating traffic, not for getting the server onto the network at all.
- Refurbished cards are the sensible route on a platform this age, once the form factor and slot rules above are settled.

An adapter and a modular storage controller compete for the same riser, so check DL160 Gen10 storage controllers before spending slot 3. DL160 Gen10 Networking Adapters FAQ
How many network ports does a DL160 Gen10 have as standard?
Two 1GbE ports embedded on the board. A separate dedicated 1Gb port serves iLO 5 management, and there is a front iLO Service Port as well.
Can I fit a FlexibleLOM to a DL160 Gen10?
Yes, but the FlexibleLOM Riser Kit 875748-B21 is required and it replaces the standard CPU1 x16/x8 riser. Only one FlexibleLOM can be added to the server.
Which slots take a 10 Gigabit adapter?
HPE documents the 10 Gigabit stand-up adapters for slot 2 and slot 3. The 1 Gigabit stand-up adapters are documented for slot 1 and slot 3.
How many PCIe slots does the DL160 Gen10 have?
Three at most. Slots 1 and 2 are on the CPU1 riser; slot 3 is on the CPU2 riser, which needs the second processor and cannot be installed if a type-a modular Smart Array controller is present.
Does the DL160 Gen10 support 25 Gigabit Ethernet?
Yes. 10/25Gb SFP28 adapters are available both as stand-up cards and in FlexibleLOM form for this server.
Is there an option faster than 25 Gigabit?
A 100Gb single-port QSFP28 adapter with Intel Omni-Path Architecture is listed for this server. It is an x16 PCIe Gen3 card, so it belongs in a slot with the lanes to feed it.
