HPE ProLiant SL390s G7 Power Supplies
Genuine HPE Common Slot hot-plug power supplies for the HPE ProLiant SL390s G7, new and refurbished. Read this before you order: an SL390s G7 tray has no power supply of its own. These are s6500 chassis supplies, they sit in four bays at chassis level, and they feed every tray installed alongside yours.
SL390s G7 Power Supply Specifications
- Where they live: the 4U HPE ProLiant s6500 chassis, which has four Common Slot power supply bays serving every server tray in it; every SL390s G7 model is documented with its power supply and fans as chassis items sold separately
- Format: HPE Common Slot hot-plug supplies rated up to 94% efficiency, hot-plug and redundant, with redundancy depending on how the chassis nodes are configured
- Factory chassis fits: three 1200W 94% efficient hot-plug supplies on the redundant-fan s6500, or two on the non-redundant-fan s6500
- Outputs stocked: 460W, 750W and 1200W units, so the chassis can be sized to the trays it carries
- Mixing: not supported — HPE cautions that inserting non-matched supplies produces errors and that operation will fail
- Input voltage matters: the 1200W Common Slot supplies deliver 800W at 100V and 900W at 120V, and their full 1200W only at 200V and above
- GPU configurations: HPE requires the 1200W Common Slot Platinum supply, part 578322-B21, in all four power supply bays when GPUs are added to 2U or 4U trays
- Cooling: eight chassis fan bays, all of which must be populated, with redundant and non-redundant fan kits that cannot be mixed
These are chassis supplies, and they feed every tray in the chassis. An SL390s G7 tray ships with no power supply of its own: power comes from four Common Slot bays in the 4U s6500. Mixing is not supported — HPE says non-matched supplies produce errors and operation will fail — and a GPU configuration means part 578322-B21 in all four bays.
Which Common Slot Supply Is Which?
| Part number | Name in the QuickSpecs | Documented efficiency | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 512327-B21 | 750W Common Slot Gold | 87.5% to 91.5% | Listed on the storefront as High Efficiency |
| 593831-B21 | 750W Common Slot Platinum | 89.2% to 93.2% | The higher grade at the same output |
| 500172-B21 | 1200W Common Slot Silver | 86% to 89% | 800W at 100V, 900W at 120V |
| 578322-B21 | 1200W Common Slot Platinum | 90% to 93% | Required in all four bays for GPU trays |
The two sources name these parts differently, so order by part number rather than by the word on the label: 512327-B21 and 578322-B21 both read as High Efficiency on the storefront, while the QuickSpecs power tables call them Gold and Platinum respectively. Two 460W supplies are also stocked for this platform, 503296-B21 and 593188-B21, which the power tables in this QuickSpecs do not cover.
Choosing the Right SL390s G7 Power Supply
- Match the part number already in the chassis. Mismatched supplies are not a performance compromise here — HPE says plainly that they produce errors and that operation will fail.
- A GPU chassis is a 578322-B21 chassis. Adding GPUs to 2U or 4U trays means that supply in all four bays, not a mixed set that happens to add up.
- Give the 1200W units high-line power. On a 100V or 120V feed they deliver 800W or 900W, so a chassis sized on the 1200W figure needs 200V or more to reach it.
- Size for the chassis, not for your tray. Up to eight half-width 1U trays draw from these four bays, so the power budget is the sum of every node fitted.
- Fans are a separate chassis part. All eight fan bays must be populated, redundant and non-redundant fans cannot be mixed, and the kits are sold one fan at a time.

Power draw follows the processors and the GPU count, so see SL390s G7 processors before sizing a chassis. Also available: SL390s G7 memory, hard drives, storage controllers and networking adapters. The s6500 fan, node blank and rail kits are on the full SL390s G7 parts listing, and every platform we carry is at HPE parts by server model.
SL390s G7 Power Supplies FAQ
Does an SL390s G7 tray have its own power supply?
No. The tray ships without one. Power comes from the Common Slot hot-plug supplies in the four bays of the s6500 chassis, and those supplies feed every tray installed in it.
How many power supplies does an s6500 chassis take?
Four bays. HPE's factory chassis configurations fit three 1200W 94% efficient supplies on the redundant-fan model and two on the non-redundant-fan model.
Can I mix power supplies in an s6500 chassis?
No. HPE cautions that only matched supplies belong in a chassis with more than one bay, and that inserting non-matched supplies produces errors and causes operation to fail.
Which power supply do GPU configurations need?
The 1200W Common Slot Platinum supply, part number 578322-B21, fitted to all four power supply bays. HPE specifies this whenever GPUs are added to 2U or 4U SL390s trays.
Why does my 1200W supply only deliver 900W?
Because of the input voltage. The 1200W Common Slot supplies are rated at 800W on a 100V feed and 900W at 120V, and reach their full 1200W only at 200V and above.
Are the s6500 fans part of the power supply?
No, they are a separate chassis item. The chassis has eight fan bays, all of which must be populated, and redundant and non-redundant fans cannot be mixed in one chassis.
