HPE ProLiant SL270s Gen8 Processors
Genuine HPE processor option kits for the HPE ProLiant SL270s Gen8, new and refurbished. Each tray takes up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 or E5-2600 v2 processors, both sockets must carry the same model, and the tray itself decides which of those two families will fit — they are not interchangeable.

- Cores and cache: two to twelve cores per socket, with 5MB of level 3 cache on dual-core parts rising to 30MB on the twelve-core E5-2695 v2
- E5-2600 kits: E5-2603 and E5-2609 entry parts at 1066MHz memory; E5-2620, E5-2630, E5-2640 and the 60W E5-2630L at 1333MHz; E5-2637, E5-2650, the 70W E5-2650L, E5-2660, E5-2665 and E5-2670 at 1600MHz
- E5-2600 v2 kits: the E5-2609 v2 entry part at 1333MHz; E5-2630 v2 and the 70W ten-core E5-2650L v2 at 1600MHz; E5-2650 v2, E5-2660 v2, E5-2670 v2, E5-2680 v2 and the twelve-core E5-2695 v2 at 1866MHz
- Power class: 60W to 115W across the range; HPE does not publish a standard 130W configuration for this tray
- 115W requirement: 115W processors call for the 1500W Common Slot Platinum Plus hot-plug power supply kit in the s6500 chassis

The tray you own decides which processor family will fit. HPE pairs E5-2600 kits with the SL270s Gen8 tray node and E5-2600 v2 kits with the SL270s Gen8 SE tray node, so a v2 processor in a non-SE tray is the wrong part rather than a slower one. Both sockets must then carry the same model, and 115W parts need the 1500W Common Slot Platinum Plus supply kit in the chassis.

The processor, not the module, is what caps memory speed on this platform, and the step between the two families is a whole grade at every class. The v2 parts also carry the wider core range: ten-core and twelve-core options exist only there, and HPE supports the Tesla K40 and K80 and the AMD FirePro S9150 accelerators only on E5-2600 v2 processors. Wattage, by contrast, is a chassis question rather than a tray question, because both trays draw on the same four Common Slot supplies.
Choosing the Right SL270s Gen8 Processor
- The tray decides the family. An SL270s Gen8 tray takes E5-2600 kits and an SL270s Gen8 SE tray takes E5-2600 v2 kits. A v2 processor in a non-SE tray is the wrong part, not a slower one.
- A second processor must match the first. Mixing different processor models in one tray is not supported, so a two-socket upgrade is two of the same kit.
- A second processor unlocks the other eight DIMM slots. With one processor fitted, half the sixteen slots are unavailable, which is often the real reason to add one.
- 115W parts carry a chassis requirement. The 1500W Common Slot Platinum Plus supply kit has to be in the s6500 before a 115W processor is supported, and that is a chassis part rather than a tray part.
- Accelerator plans narrow the choice. The Tesla K40, the K80 and the AMD FirePro S9150 are supported only on E5-2600 v2 processors.
